Jarquez Hunter - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates

Fresh start with New Orleans The Saints signed Hunter to the practice squad Wednesday.

Impact Hunter was cut from the Dolphins' practice squad Tuesday, but it didn't take long for the 2025 fourth-rounder to find a new opportunity with the Saints. Lead back Travis Etienne (hamstring) is on injured reserve, and with Alvin Kamara still working through a back issue, Hunter is a candidate to be elevated to the Saints' active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Giants on Sunday.

Released by Miami The Dolphins released Hunter from the practice squad Tuesday.

Impact Hunter signed to Miami's practice squad in early September and remained a depth piece through five regular-season games in 2026. The 23-year-old last played for the Rams in 2025 where he appeared in five games, recording 22 snaps on special teams.

Joins up with Miami practice squad The Dolphins signed Hunter to the practice squad Monday.

Impact The Dolphins waived Hunter during Sunday's cutdown day. The running back cleared waivers and joined the practice squad in his new home. Hunter was traded to the Dolphins from the Rams last Thursday but surprisingly did not make the team's initial 53-man roster. The 23-year-old sticking around in Miami likely means the team has given him a path to potential playing time.

Waived by Miami The Dolphins waived Hunter on Sunday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Impact The Rams traded Hunter to the Dolphins just last Thursday in return for wide receiver Tutu Atwell. If the team was not set on making Hunter a member of the initial 53-man roster, it is unclear why it went ahead with the trade. Hunter did not play in a preseason game with the Dolphins. The running back will now be placed on waivers. If the 23-year-old remains unclaimed, there is a good chance he will sign with the Rams or Dolphins' practice squad as a free agent.

Dealt to Miami Hunter was traded from the Rams to the Dolphins in exchange for wide receiver Tutu Atwell on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact Hunter will join Miami's roster after he was limited to 22 snaps on special teams over five contests with the Rams in his rookie campaign last season. The running back was selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he was never able to carve out a role for himself behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum in Los Angeles. Hunter will have a chance to compete with Ollie Gordon (ribs) for the No. 3 role in the Dolphins' backfield, but he may have to settle for a practice squad spot to open 2026.

Scores touchdown in preseason win Hunter turned 12 carries into 68 yards and a touchdown while failing to haul in his lone target during the Rams' 34-0 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday.

Impact Hunter was listed as the Rams' starting running back Saturday while Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers were all sidelined. Hunter was effective as a rusher, with five of his 12 rushing attempts going for eight yards or more, and his last carry late in the fourth quarter resulted in a 12-yard touchdown. The 2025 fourth-rounder is up to 103 yards and one score on 21 carries through two preseason games, but he's far from a guarantee to crack the Rams' 53-man roster by the end of training camp, with Rivers being his main competition. Hunter's last opportunity for an in-game audition takes place Thursday in the Rams' preseason finale against the Chargers.

Impact Hunter will take a seat for the second straight week after playing 13 snaps on special teams in the Rams' win over the Panthers in the wild-card round. Ronnie Rivers will serve as the team's No. 3 option at running back behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum versus the Seahawks.
