Officially rejoins Pats
Collins signed a contract with the Patriots on Wednesday.
Impact
Collins will now begin his third stint in New England after being cut by Detroit in late September. The veteran linebacker may not fill a starting role for the Patriots, but he provides some experienced depth with Kyle Van Noy (groin), Ja'Whaun Bentley (shoulder) and Ronnie Perkins (ankle) currently banged up.

Potentially rejoining New England
Collins has recently been in contract discussions with the Patriots, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Impact
Collins was released by the Lions last week, and his former team has quickly shown interest in bringing him back into the fold. The 31-year-old had 10 tackles (seven solo) and a fumble recovery over the first two games of the season for Detroit, and he could immediately step into a significant role with New England if a deal is reached.

Lions cut LB Jamie Collins, a week after trying to trade him
The Detroit Lions released veteran linebacker Jamie Collins, a week after acknowledging they were exploring options to trade him

Released by Detroit
The Lions released Collins on Tuesday.
Impact
Collins was a healthy scratch in Week 3 after the Lions publicly expressed interest in trading him. The 31-year-old linebacker appeared in 14 games for Detroit last season and totaled 101 tackles, six pass deflections, three forced fumbles and one sack. He will likely draw interest from plenty of teams that are in search of help at linebacker.

On trade block
Coach Dan Campbell confirmed Thursday that the Lions are working to trade Collins, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.
Impact
Collins is not present at Detroit's team facilities Thursday, and it appears as though things are trending toward him being a healthy scratch Week 3. The soon-to-be 32-year-old isn't an ideal fit for a rebuilding Lions squad, especially since it looks like Campbell intends to give rookie linebacker ?Derrick Barnes more defensive opportunities.

Unimpressive versus Packers
Collins had five tackles (four solo) during Monday's 35-17 loss to the Packers.
Impact
Stats don't tell the entire story of Collins' night, as he and fellow inside linebacker Alex Anzalone consistently failed to match Green Bay's quickness and were regularly beaten to the edge. Roughly one month away from turning 32 years old, Collins may simply no longer possess the speed he did earlier in his career. If his play doesn't improve, the Lions could be pressured to give younger players, such as rookie fourth-round pick Derrick Barnes, more opportunities.

Looking healthy
Collins is ready to go for the upcoming season, Kyle Meinke of mlive reports.
Impact
The versatile defensive player has recovered from his neck injury suffered toward the end of the 2020 campaign and is on track to return to his starting role. In his first year in Detroit, Collins tallied 101 tackles, one sack, six pass breakups and three forced fumbles over 14 games in 2020. The veteran linebacker is projected for another three-down role this year, alongside new addition Alex Anzalone.

Restructuring contract
Collins' (neck) contract will be restructured to create salary cap space, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Impact
Collins' cap number is currently $11.3 million, which will likely be lowered significantly in order to create salary cap space. The 31-year-old managed triple digits in tackles again during his 2020 campaign (101), and he'll look to build on that number in the upcoming season now that his 2021 roster spot appears secured.

Another 100-tackle season
Collins (neck) racked up 101 tackles, one sack, six pass breakups and three forced fumbles over 14 games in 2020.
Impact
Within arguably the worst linebacking corps in the NFL, Collins again showed his worth as one of the most versatile linebackers in the league despite his advanced age (31). Not only was he, once again, a highly versatile chess piece that helped out in both the run and passing game, Collins came through in the stat sheet as well with his second 100-tackle campaign in the past three years. While one can certainly question his production as a pass rusher, nitpickers should keep in mind that Detroit -- which allowed franchise-worst marks in points (519) and yards allowed (6,978) in 2020 -- gave opponents little reason to go away from the run game this year. Not to mention, there were few other Lions defenders that opposing offenses actually needed to account for. With two more years left on his contract at a very team-friendly rate of $10 million per season, Collins should again be a significant IDP contributor in 2021. That he was able to fit in a limited practice before ultimately sitting out Week 17 suggests Collins' neck injury isn't overly concerning.

Unavailable for Week 17
Collins (neck) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Vikings.
Impact
Collins is set to miss a second straight game to close out the season. Reggie Ragland figures to see more playing time in Collins' stead. The 31-year-old linebacker enjoyed a solid first season with Detroit, posting 101 tackles (55 solo), a sack, six pass breakups and three forced fumbles. He's under contract for two more years.

Questionable for Sunday
Collins (neck) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Impact
The veteran linebacker sat out the first two practices of the week, but he progressed to limited participation Friday to earn the questionable tag. Collins missed his first game of the season last week but could be back on the field for the season finale.

DNP at practice
Collins (neck) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice.
Impact
Collins is coming off his first missed game of the 2020 campaign. His absence from Wednesday's practice is not a promising sign for his Week 17 status. Reggie Ragland would likely be in line to once again replace him at outside linebacker should he ultimately need to sit out the regular-season finale.

Missing first game of 2020
Collins (neck) is listed as inactive for Saturday's matchup against the Buccaneers.
Impact
Collins sat out the entire practice week after his 79 percent defensive snap share in last Sunday's loss to Tennessee represented his lowest since Week 2. With the two-time Super Bowl champion linebacker unavailable to face former teammate Tom Brady and the Buccaneers, Reggie Ragland is in line to garner an enhanced workload at one of Detroit's outside linebacker spots.

ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Saturday
Collins (neck) is listed as questionable for Saturday's contest against Tampa Bay, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Impact
Collins was unable to practice at all this week, so he appears to be trending in the wrong direction for Saturday. The veteran leads Detroit with 101 tackles this season, so his absence against a tough Buccaneers squad would be a tough blow to a defense that is giving up a league-worst 31.1 points per game.

ROTOWIRE
Misses practice Wednesday
Collins (neck) did not practice Wednesday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Impact
The Lions didn't hold practice Tuesday, but Collins was listed as an estimated DNP for that session as well. Given that this is a short week for Detroit -- they play Tampa Bay on Saturday -- logging at least a limited session Thursday could be crucial for Collins' chances of suiting up. Reggie Ragland would likely start in Collins' place if the latter is unable to play Saturday.

Nine stops in divisional win
Collins made nine tackles (three solo) in Sunday's 34-30 win over the Bears.
Impact
Collins has registered eight or more tackles in seven of the past nine games, and he's up to 92 total stops this year. The 31-year-old continues to impress, leading the team in tackles with 33 more than Tracy Walker, who sits at No. 2. He could comfortably reach a new career high of 116 this year.

ROTOWIRE
Nine tackles Sunday
Collins recorded nine tackles (four solo) and a pass defensed across 66 defensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Panthers.
Impact
Collins continues to be a tacking machine in Detroit, as he now has 77 on the season. The veteran linebacker continues to see high snap counts week in and week out, playing in 85 percent of the defensive reps this season. He'll now shift his focus to Thursday's Thanksgiving showdown with the Texans.
