Greg Dortch - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates

Signs to active roster The Bills signed Dortch from the practice squad to the active roster Friday, Maddy Glabb reports.

Impact Dortch has expended two practice squad elevations for the Bills over two regular-season weeks. The returner has played four offensive snaps and 18 special teams snaps in the two contests, totaling 133 kick return yards and 46 punt return yards. With defensive back Jordan Hancock (hamstring) moving to IR, the team utilized the freshly opened spot to secure its primary returner a spot on the 53-man roster.

Reverts to practice squad Dortch reverted to the Bills' practice squad Thursday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Impact Dortch played a total of 12 snaps (four on offense, eight on special teams) and was the Bills' primary returner on special teams, logging 36 yards on three punt returns and turning two kickoffs into 51 yards. It's the second consecutive game in which Dortch has been elevated to the active roster, and he's eligible to be elevated only once more for the rest of the regular season. Should that happen, he would need to be signed to the active roster in order to play for Buffalo.

Elevated again Thursday The Bills elevated Dortch from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Thursday's game versus the Lions.

Impact Dortch was elevated to the active roster for Sunday's 36-31 victory over the Texans. That trend will continue Thursday, with the 28-year-old suiting up for a potential high-scoring contest. The Bills' receiving corps is healthy in Week 2, so Dortch will presumably spend most of his time on special teams once again.

Reverts to practice squad Dortch reverted to the Bills' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Impact Dortch was elevated to the active roster for a return role with the Bills' special teams unit. The wide receiver played 10 special teams snaps, taking two punt returns for 10 yards and three kick returns for 82 yards en route to a 36-31 Bills victory. Dortch can only be elevated for two more regular-season games before he must be signed to the active roster to play for the team.

Active in Week 1 Dortch will suit up for his Bills debut Sunday against the Texans.

Impact Dortch was waived by the Lions a few weeks ago, but caught on with the Bills, and was elevated from their practice squad Saturday. He had caught 24 or more passes in four consecutive seasons with the Cardinals, but his role in Buffalo currently projects to primarily be in the return game, as he presumably remains behind the likes of Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer (and starters DJ Moore and Khalil Shakir) on the WR depth chart.

SEPTEMBER 1 • BUFFALOWDOWN.COM

Moving on to Buffalo The Bills signed Dortch to their practice squad Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact In a Lions receiving corps that isn't exactly deep behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa, Dortch was unable to escape cut-down day Sunday as a roster casualty in Detroit. Upon joining the Bills, Dortch similarly has a difficult path to relevance, though two of the team's top three wide receivers -- Khalil Shakir (undisclosed) and Keon Coleman (foot) -- are tending to injuries at the moment. In any case, Buffalo will have three opportunities to elevate Dortch from the practice squad in-season before needing to make a decision to add him to the active roster.

SEPTEMBER 1 • ROTOWIRE

Let go by Detroit The Lions are releasing Dortch, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Impact When Dortch linked up with Detroit in the offseason, his best path to playing time, or even a roster spot, was his ability as a returner, as the Lions offense runs primarily through its big four of RB Jahmyr Gibbs, WRs Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams and TE Sam LaPorta (hip). After the exhibition slate concluded, though, the team has opted to move on from Dortch. Aa a vested veteran, he'll be able to sign with another team immediately.
