Chicago Bears agree to deal with TE Gerald Everett The Chicago Bears have agreed to a deal with veteran tight end Gerald Everett on Tuesday.

Joining Chicago Everett and the Bears are in agreement on a contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Impact One of the better receiving options among a weak free-agent class of tight ends, Everett is linking up with a Bears team that already has a proven starter in Cole Kmet, coming off a 719-yard, six-TD season. Everett could take some of the snaps in obvious passing situations given that he's probably a bit quicker and more agile, though Kmet is taller, heavier, stronger and has a better track record of receiving production. The Bears may have a lot of two-TE formations in mind, especially with their WR depth behind No. 1 DJ Moore looking shaky at the moment. Still, it's not a great fantasy situation for Everett, who turns 30 in June after five straight seasons in the range of 408-to-555 receiving yards (for three different teams).

Ho-hum season as pass catcher Everett, who was forced out of the 13-12 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday due to a knee injury, finished the 2023 campaign with 51 catches for 411 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Impact The Chargers haven't released any official information regarding the severity of Everett's injury, so it's fair to assume the veteran should be healthy following the offseason. The 29-year-old wrapped up his seventh year in the NFL with solid figures given his role essentially as a safety blanket for Justin Herbert, as he never recorded more than 50 yards receiving in a single game despite seven contests with at least four receptions. Everett enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent that will likely draw some suitors given his constant reliability.

Impact Everett surpassed the season high of eight targets that he had seen over the Chargers' last three contests, but he wound up finishing Sunday's loss with the lowest reception and yardage total of any game from that span. The veteran tight end wasn't the only player to struggle for a team that failed to score a touchdown against the now 8-8 Broncos. Everett and the rest of his teammates will look to end the season on a high note if they can upset the Chiefs in Week 18.

Impact Everett finished with a team-high reception total for the Chargers in the lopsided loss, with his enhanced participation partly the byproduct of Keenan Allen's (heel) absence. The veteran tight end actually has back-to-back five-catch tallies, and he hasn't recorded less than four receptions since being blanked against the Lions in Week 10. Everett figures to continue enjoying a solid role in a Week 16 home battle against the Bills on Saturday, Dec. 23, particularly if Allen remains sidelined for that contest.
