Donovan Edwards - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates | FOX Sports

Let go by Miami The Dolphins waived Edwards on Saturday.

Impact Edwards did not play in Friday's preseason finale against the Falcons. The running back logged one rush attempt in the Dolphins' preseason opener against the Commanders for a loss of one yard. The second-year player out of Michigan will now be subject to waivers through Sunday's cutdown day and into Monday. If Edwards goes unclaimed, he will become a free agent able to sign with any organization's 53-man roster or practice squad.

Joins Dolphins' active roster Miami signed Edwards the 53-man roster from Washington's practice squad Friday, in preparation for Sunday's season finale against the Patriots.

Impact Edwards could get a chance to contribute out of the backfield behind Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon versus New England, with No. 1 man De'Von Achane (shoulder) having missed three straight practices in preparation for Week 18 and considered a game-time decision. The undrafted rookie out of Michigan flashed during the preseason while with the Jets, but he couldn't stick with New York for the regular season. He inked with the Commanders' practice squad late August and has remained there without being elevated for a single contest this season, before now being poached by the Dolphins.

Lands with Commanders The Commanders signed Edwards to the practice squad Wednesday, Commanders writer Ben Standig reports.

Impact Edwards spent the preseason with the Jets and flashed potential. He fell short of a roster spot in a crowded backfield, but he'll have a new opportunity with the Commanders, who have a less settled running back depth chart.

Fails to make Jets roster Edwards was waived Tuesday, Randy Lange and Eric Allen of the Jets' official site report.

Impact Edwards had a productive preseason, but the rookie out of Michigan failed to win a roster spot in a Jets backfield that consists of Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis (ankle) and Kene Nwangwu heading into the regular season. Assuming Edwards passes through waivers unclaimed, he's likely to end up on the Jets' practice squad.

Impact Edwards didn't log a touch until halfway through the third quarter but played well once he got into the game. The rookie running back is a contender to land on the Jets' practice squad after signing with the team in April as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan, but he's unlikely to earn a roster spot over Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, Isaiah Daivs (ankle) or Kene Nwangwu (calf), the last two of which got banged up Saturday with injuries that are expected to be minor.
