DeShon Elliott - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates

Logs full practice Wednesday Elliott (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.

Impact It's the first time Elliott has logged a full practice since his 21-day window to return from injured reserve opened Oct. 8. The Steelers released Rayshawn Jenkins earlier Wednesday, and that's a potential sign that Elliott will be available to make his 2026 debut this Sunday against the Saints in Paris.

Ruled out for Sunday Elliott (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.

Impact Elliott's 21-day return window was opened Oct. 8. The safety did not play in the Steelers' Week 5 game against the Colts and has now been ruled out ahead of Week 6. Elliott was a limited participant in all three practices during Week 6 prep but is still not quite ready to return to the field.

Ruled out for Sunday Elliott (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Colts, Mark Kaboly of 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports.

Impact Elliott returned to practice Thursday after the Steelers opened up his 21-day return window. The safety logged two limited sessions in Week 5 as he works through a persistent knee injury. It remains unclear if Elliott will be ready to suit up for Week 6 or if he will need even more time to recover.

Returns to practice Thursday Elliott (undisclosed) returned to practice Thursday, Teresa Varley reports.

Impact The 21-day practice window opened Thursday. While Elliott was only back on the practice field in a limited capacity, it was still a step in the right direction. However, despite his presence at practice Thursday, the team might need to wait a few more weeks before he's ready to suit up, with Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reporting his return may happen when the Steelers play the Saints in Paris on Oct. 25.

Starting season on IR Elliott (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve by the Steelers on Sunday with a designation to return, Teresa Varley of the team's official website reports.

Impact Elliott suffered a pair of knee injuries in 2025, the latter of which sidelined him for the last two-plus months of the campaign. The safety was able to return to practice in late July, and he registered four total tackles (three solo) during the preseason. It's unclear if Elliott is still dealing with a knee issue or something new, but he will now be forced to miss at least four contests to begin the regular season.

Back at practice Friday Elliott (knee) took first-team reps in Friday's practice after being held out of Thursday's session, Andrew Vasquez of USA Today reports.

Impact Elliott was limited to just five regular-season games in 2025 due to a knee injury, with his last game taking place Week 8 against the Packers. He appears to be fully healthy for the start of training camp and projects to start alongside Jaquan Brisker at safety, with Darnell Savage providing depth at the position.

Impact Elliott suffered a sprained MCL in Pittsburgh's Week 1 win over the Jets before he later suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Packers in Week 8. The safety was rather productive when active, but the five appearances set a new career-low for the 28-year-old. Elliott signed a two-year, $12.5 million contract extension with the Steelers prior to the year, so he'll look to get back to full strength and compete for a starting role with the team in 2026.
