INJURIES

Going to Bucs' practice squad Tampa Bay signed Houston to its practice squad Thursday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact Houston's training camp was hampered by injuries, so he'll start the season on the practice squad instead of Tampa Bay's 53-man active roster. His last regular-season action came in 2022, when he caught two of six targets for 16 yards over two games with the Cowboys.

Waived by Bucs Houston (groin) was waived Tuesday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact Houston's groin injury has healed, but he failed to make Tampa Bay's initial 53-man roster. The 26-year-old wide receiver will be a candidate for Tampa Bay's practice squad if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

Ruled out Saturday Houston (groin) is ruled out to return to Saturday's preseason context against the Titans, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Impact Houston, who hasn't suited up for regular-season action since he appeared in two games with the Cowboys in 2022, has spent training camp competing for a depth role in Tampa Bay's crowded wide receiver corps. The severity of his groin injury remains uncertain, but Houston's next opportunity to appear in preseason action will come Aug. 16 against the Steelers, if healthy.

Inks deal with Tampa Bay The Bucs signed Houston to a reserve/future contract Tuesday.
Impact Houston spent last summer with the Giants but was cut with an injury settlement in August. He latched on with Tampa Bay's practice squad in October and spent the remainder of the season there. Houston will get a chance to earn a longer look this upcoming offseason. He hasn't appeared in a regular-season contest since 2022 with Dallas.

Lands new opportunity Houston (undisclosed) signed with Tampa Bay's practice squad Wednesday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact Houston was last with the Giants during training camp and was ultimately waived from injured reserve due to an undisclosed injury. Now healthy, the Western Illinois product will bolster the Buccaneers' organizational depth at wide receiver as the team deals with multiple injuries at the position.

Reaches injury settlement The Giants waived Houston (undisclosed) from injured reserve Thursday with an injury settlement, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Impact Houston was waived with an undisclosed injury designation Aug. 20, and he reverted to the Giants' injured reserve one day later. Houston will explore his next opportunities once he's fully healed from his injury.

Put on IR Houston (undisclosed) reverted to injured reserve Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Impact Houston was waived with an injury designation Monday, seemingly after suffering an undisclosed injury in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans. The Western Illinois product will now miss the 2024 campaign unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team.
AUGUST 21, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Waived/injured by Giants The Giants waived/injured Houston (undisclosed) on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Impact Houston had been dealing with a hand injury since the beginning of August, but he was able to suit up for Saturday's preseason contest against the Texans. It's unclear whether he's currently dealing with the same injury or a separate one, but he will now go on waivers. If Houston goes unclaimed, then he would revert to the Giants' injured reserve and be forced to miss all of 2024 unless the two sides reach an agreement on an injury settlement.
AUGUST 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to action Houston (hand) did not catch his lone target during Saturday's preseason loss at the Texans.
Impact Houston had been missing time with a hand issue, but he's now apparently back in playing shape. Even still, he's probably on the outside looking in at a spot on the Giants' final 53-man roster for 2024.
AUGUST 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with hand injury Houston did not participate in Tuesday's joint practice with the Lions due to a hand injury, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Impact The severity of the injury isn't clear, but it puts Houston's availability for the Giants' first preseason game against the Lions on Thursday in jeopardy. His only playing time in the NFL came with the Cowboys in 2022, when he caught two passes for 16 yards in two regular-season games. Houston spent all of 2023 on the Giants' practice squad and signed a reserve/future contract with Big Blue in January in the hopes that he can catch onto the 53-man roster at the conclusion of training camp.

Inks reserve/future deal with G-Men The Giants signed Houston to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Impact Houston had an excellent senior season for Western Illinois in 2022, recording 1,015 yards and six touchdowns on 90 catches and adding 63 yards and two scores on five carries. The wideout's lone NFL regular-season action to date came in 2022, when he caught two passes on six targets for 16 yards over two games with Dallas. Houston spent most of last season on the Giants' practice squad and was elevated in Week 17 but didn't see any action. With the reserve/future contract, he'll have a chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp this summer.
JANUARY 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sticks with Dallas Dallas signed Houston to a reserve/future contract Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Houston signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Western Illinois last spring and made Dallas' initial 53-man roster at the conclusion of the preseason. He caught two of five targets for 16 yards in a Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay but failed to secure his lone target in Week 2 and was then waived ahead of Michael Gallup's (ankle) season debut. After clearing waivers, Houston latched on with the Cowboys' practice squad and spent the remainder of the campaign there. With his new deal, Houston will be able to stick around the organization and look to stake a more permanent claim to a roster spot in 2023.
JANUARY 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to Dallas Houston signed with the Cowboys' practice squad Thursday.
Impact Houston initially joined Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Western Illinois and caught two of five passes for 16 yards in Week 1. However, the 23-year-old failed to haul in his lone target while playing 32 percent of the Cowboys' offensive snaps in Week 2 and was waived by the team Tuesday. With No. 2 wideout Michael Gallup (knee) likely set to return Monday, Houston will likely serve as a potential gameday elevation should Dallas' receiving corps sustain any further injuries this season.

The Cowboys made unconventional roster choices. Here's what they mean
Still making impact in practice Houston ended Thursday's joint practice with the Chargers by catching a Hail Mary pass from Dak Prescott for a touchdown, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact The undrafted rookie out of Western Illinois has been making a name for himself since OTAs, and Houston connecting with Prescott on a big play -- even if it's in practice -- can only help his chances of making the final roster. What's working in Houston's favor even more is the health of the rest of the Cowboys' wide receiver corps. Michael Gallup (knee) and James Washington (foot) are set to miss the beginning of the regular season, while CeeDee Lamb and Noah Brown are both dealing with minor toe/foot issues. That leaves Houston competing primarily with Simi Fehoko and KaVontae Turpin for snaps on offense behind 2022 third-round pick Jalen Tolbert.

Dak Prescott confident he can lead young Cowboys WRs
Making good early impression Houston drew praise from both head coach Mike McCarthy and teammate CeeDee Lamb on Tuesday, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact In the wake of a foot injury to James Washington that could keep him sidelined until mid-October, the Cowboys' depth chart at wide receiver suddenly seems perilously thin behind Lamb. Team owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday he was "satisfied" with the team's depth and felt "no urgency" to go out and sign a veteran, however, and Houston's emergence may have something to do with that. The undrafted rookie out of Western Illinois has been a standout in the eyes of the coaching staff since OTAs, and Lamb has noticed too, noting how "smooth he is in and out of his breaks." Houston isn't likely to force his way into a starting role, but he appears to be doing everything necessary to win a roster spot.
