Running lanes not materializing Montgomery rushed 11 times for 33 yards while catching both of his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Colts.

Impact Montgomery was stuffed for no gain on a 4th-and-1 in Colts territory in the first quarter, and he watched Woody Marks convert a one-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Marks has 29 touches to Montgomery's 44 through three games, and it's concerning that Montgomery isn't monopolizing short-yardage opportunities after scoring three short TDs in the season opener. Neither running back has found much running room behind Houston's underwhelming offensive line, and Montgomery is averaging just 2.8 yards per carry heading into a Week 4 home game against the Cowboys.

Stymied in Week 2 loss Montgomery rushed six times for 10 yards and brought in both his targets for 14 yards in the Texans' 20-6 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.

Impact Neither Montgomery nor backfield mate Woody Marks was able to make any inroads against what looks to be a vastly improved Bengals run defense, although after also being held to 3.0 yards per carry in Week 1, it's clear Montgomery's early issues with efficiency can at least partly be blamed on the Texans' offensive line. Montgomery also saw Marks outpace him by two carries and four targets, yet that may have been largely a function of a game script that saw Houston in catch-up mode. Montgomery should revert back to a lead role in a Week 3 road divisional clash against the Colts next Sunday.
