Lands on IR
Johnson (concussion) has been placed on injured reserve, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact
Johnson will now be sidelined a minimum of three weeks. His absence means that Duke Johnson will be the team's lead back for the immediate future. The 28-year-old will now focus on his recovery. His next chance to potentially return will be Dec. 6 against the Colts.

Ruled out this week
Johnson (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns.
Impact
The running back wasn't able to practice all week and thus will target a potential return to action Week 11 versus the Patriots. In his absence this Sunday, Duke Johnson is in line to head the Texans' running attack.

Not looking good for Sunday
Johnson (concussion) is not practicing Thursday and is expected to miss Sunday's game in Cleveland, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
Johnson suffered a concussion during last weekend's win over the Jaguars, and he hasn't yet returned to the practice field. While the veteran running back hasn't yet been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns, his chances of gaining full medical clearance in time to suit up are looking increasingly slim. If he's indeed unable to go, Duke Johnson would be the clear favorite to start for Houston after seeing a career-high 20 touches versus Jacksonville.

Not ready to practice
Texans head coach Romeo Crennel said Johnson (concussion) won't be available to practice Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
Johnson exited the Texans' Week 9 win over the Jaguars with the head injury and doesn't seem to have made any notable progress through the NFL's concussion protocol three days later. Typically, a concussed player's absence from practice to begin the week doesn't bode well for his chances of gaining clearance for game day, so Johnson looks to be in serious danger of sitting out Sunday's contest in Cleveland. If Johnson is inactive this weekend, Duke Johnson would likely be in store for a three-down role out of the Texans backfield after he received a career-high 20 touches in relief of David against Jacksonville.

Facing poor rush defense Week 9
Johnson faces the 28th-ranked rushing defense Week 9 on the road against Jacksonville.
Impact
Johnson and the Texans are last in the league in rushing offense (84.9 YPG), but they get a break Week 9. The Jaguars cede 142.6 yards per game, and it was against them that Johnson had his best game of the season. In Houston's lone victory of the 2020 season, Johnson rushed for a season-high 96 yards on 17 carries, while the team had its best rushing day with 129 yards.

Productive as receiver
Johnson carried the ball 14 times for 42 yards in Week 7 against the Packers. He added four receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Impact
Johnson wasn't able to get much going on the ground, averaging just 3.0 yards per rush. He did show some explosiveness on a 13-yard carry late in the third quarter but did most of his damage as a receiver. Notably, Johnson hauled in receptions of 16 and 15 yards while also finding the end zone on a three-yard catch. Though he has yet to reach 100 yards on the ground this season, Johnson has gotten a consistent workload and has recorded four touchdowns in seven contests to this point. He and the Texans draw a Week 8 bye.

Finds paydirt in high-scoring loss
Johnson rushed 19 times for 57 yards and a touchdown while catching one of two targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 42-36 overtime loss to Tennessee.
Impact
Johnson's one-yard rushing score with 6:15 left in the third quarter was the first of four second-half touchdowns scored by the Texans, but Houston still came up short in the high-scoring affair. The veteran running back has carved out a high floor as the primary option in Houston's backfield, topping 90 scrimmage yards or finding the end zone in all but one of the team's first six games. Houston's brutally difficult early-season schedule continues with the Packers coming to town in Week 7.

Tops 100 total yards
Johnson carried the ball 17 times for 96 yards in Week 5 against Jacksonville. He added two receptions for seven yards.
Impact
Johnson had his most productive day on the ground from a yardage perspective, falling just short of the century mark. That production was a bit deceptive as Johnson managed a 29-yard gain -- his longest of the day -- on the second-to-last play of the contest. Still, he dominated usage out of the backfield, accounting for 17 of the team's 22 total rushing attempts. Johnson remains a viable producer based on his volume alone, logging 400 total yards through five contests. He'll draw a more difficult test in Week 6 when the Texans take on the Titans.

ROTOWIRE
Held in check by Vikings
Johnson registered 63 rushing yards on 16 carries, also corralling two of three targets for 29 receiving yards during Sunday's 31-23 loss to Minnesota.
Impact
Following a promising Texans debut in which he racked up 109 scrimmage yards, including a 19-yard touchdown run, Johnson has been largely contained by opposing defenses the past three weeks. In his most recent outings against the Ravens, Steelers and Vikings, the 2016 All-Pro has averaged a meager 3.0 yards per rushing attempt with one total touchdown and two catches per game. The slate does get significantly easier for Johnson in Week 5, as he faces a Jaguars defense that just surrendered 151 rushing yards and three total TDs to Cincinnati back Joe Mixon.

No room to run
The Texans' offensive line has not given Johnson much room to run through the first three weeks, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. "There's nothing that David can do d...
Impact
The offensive line is allowing too much penetration, which hasn't presented many holes for Johnson. Linemen Max Scharping, Senio Kelemete, Zach Fulton and Nick Martin have registered sub-par run-blocking grades, per Pro Football Focus. Johnson hasn't helped himself after contact, averaging just 1.8 yards after initial contact, 31st among the 32 backs with at least 30 carries. He remains the team's No. 1 running back, but the Texans have Duke Johnson returning this week after he missed the previous two games with a sprained left ankle.

Finds end zone in loss
Johnson rushed 13 times for 23 yards and a touchdown and caught two of three targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 28-21 loss to the Steelers.
Impact
Following a strong Week 1, Johnson's ground game has appeared to get progressively worse en route to 1.8 yards per carry in Week 3. However, it's not as disappointing as a glance at the stat line would suggest, as this is the same defensive front that held Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) to just six yards on 15 carries in the season opener. Johnson still managed to reel in a pair of catches and a touchdown in the second quarter to provide some relief for fantasy managers. He'll look to get back on track in Week 4 against the Vikings, who have allowed a 100-yard rusher in back-to-back games.
