INJURIES

Dropped by Detroit Daniels was released by the Lions on Saturday.
Impact The veteran tight end appeared in three games for Detroit this season, playing on 85 percent of the team's special teams snaps before getting released. Daniels has also spent time with Arizona, Indianapolis and Seattle throughout his seven-year career, and he could very well return to the Lions' practice squad if he clears waivers.
OCTOBER 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Joins Indianapolis' practice squad Indianapolis signed Daniels to its practice squad Wednesday.
Impact Daniels appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals last season, recording one catch for zero yards, but he failed to stick with the Texans this offseason and has remained a free agent since. The veteran tight end will get his first NFL opportunity of the campaign with Indianapolis and could be a candidate for elevation if Jelani Woods (shoulder) is unable to play in Week 10.

Inks new deal Daniels signed with the Texans on Monday, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Daniels spent the last three seasons with the Cardinals, mostly supplying tight end depth for them, a role he'll likely have if he can crack the Texans roster. Last season, Daniels appeared in 15 contests, making one catch on four targets for no yards.
MAY 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
No designation for Week 11 Daniels (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Impact Daniels was a limited participant in the Cardinals' first two Week 11 practices on account of the shoulder injury, but he gained clearance for Sunday after practicing fully Friday, per Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site. He'll likely serve as the No. 2 tight end behind starter Zach Ertz this weekend, with Daniels being deployed primarily as a blocker.
NOVEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Available Week 8 Daniels (hamstring) is active for Thursday's game against the Packers, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Daniels was listed as limited all week on Cardinals injury reports, but his hamstring issue won't deter him from suiting up. That said, with Zach Ertz having one more week of prep to acclimate himself to the offense, Daniels likely won't have much more than a bit role now and moving forward.
OCTOBER 28, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for TNF Daniels (hamstring) is questionable for this week's matchup with the Packers on Thursday Night Football, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Daniels was a limited participant in practice Tuesday before being estimated as limited at Wednesday's walkthrough. He is likely going to be a game-time decision, and if the tight end can't go, Demetrius Harris would operate as the primary backup behind Zach Ertz at the position.
OCTOBER 28, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Limited again Tuesday Daniels (hamstring) was a limited participant during Tuesday's practice, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Daniels didn't practice at all last week and was inactive for the Cardinals' Week 7 win over the Texans, so it is a positive sign to see him back at practice, even if it is in a limited fashion. Arizona faces Green Bay on Sunday, so Daniels will have one more shot Wednesday to log a full practice. If he is unable to suit up Thursday, Demetrius Harris will likely operate as the backup to recently acquired Zach Ertz.
OCTOBER 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Listed as limited Monday Daniels (hamstring) was listed as a limited participant on Monday's practice estimate, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Daniels missed last week's win over Houston due to this injury and will have a short week to recover with Arizona facing the Packers on Thursday, but this limited designation is a step in the right direction after he failed to practice at all last week. If he's able to return Thursday, Daniels will likely work as the top backup to Zach Ertz.
OCTOBER 25, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Ruled out for Week 7 Arizona ruled Daniels (hamstring) out for Sunday's contest against the Texans, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Daniels didn't practice at all this week, so his absence Sunday comes as little surprise. With the recently acquired Zach Ertz set to make his team debut Sunday while taking over as the Cardinals' No. 1 tight end moving forward, Demetrius Harris will operate as the clear top backup with Daniels out of the mix this week.
OCTOBER 22, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Idle for second straight practice Daniels (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday and wasn't on the field for Thursday's session, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact With Daniels beginning Week 7 prep with consecutive absences at practice, he's trending in the wrong direction for Sunday's game against the Texans. Daniels appeared headed for a bigger opportunity after top tight end Maxx Williams (knee) was placed on injured reserve ahead of the Cardinals' Week 6 win over the Browns, but the 26-year-old played just 23 snaps and drew one target before exiting with the hamstring injury. Arizona has since acquired Zach Ertz from Philadelphia to take over as the No. 1 option at the position, so Daniels will be headed for a backup role if he can overcome his hamstring injury ahead of Sunday's contest.

Cardinals brush COVID-19 issues aside, keep winning games

The Arizona Cardinals remained the NFL’s final undefeated team by beating the Cleveland Browns 37-14 on Sunday in arguably their most impressive win of the season

Nursing hamstring injury Daniels exited Sunday's game against the Browns with a hamstring injury, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Daniels failed to catch his lone target before the injury was announced during the third quarter. Demetrius Harris and Ross Travis are Arizona's remaining healthy options at tight end since Zach Ertz isn't eligible to suit up because he already played Thursday before being acquired from Philadelphia.
OCTOBER 17, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Clear for Week 6 Daniels (illness) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game at Cleveland, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact After a near week-long stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Daniels cleared league protocols and was brought back to the active roster Tuesday. No matter, the Cardinals capped his reps in the first two practices of Week 6 prep before allowing him to handle all of them Friday. Daniels thus will be available for the first time since Week 4, only this time he'll be the team's top tight end in the wake of Maxx Williams' likely season-ending knee injury. Arizona did swing a deal for Zach Ertz on Friday, but because he played Thursday against the Buccaneers, he isn't eligible to play until Week 7 against the Texans. Until then, Daniels, Demetrius Harris and practice squad member Ross Travis will handle TE duties for the Cards.
OCTOBER 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Remains limited participant Daniels (illness) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Following a positive COVID-19 test last week, Daniels has since cleared all of the NFL's intensive protocols, but the Cardinals have still elected to ease the tight end back into the fold with a pair of limited practices to kick off Week 6 prep. Assuming Daniels is deemed fit to play this weekend against the Browns, he'll likely step into a larger role than he saw prior to missing last week's win over the 49ers. With top tight end Maxx Williams (knee) heading to season-ending injured reserve Wednesday, Daniels and Demetrius Harris appear set to split work at the position for the foreseeable future.
OCTOBER 14, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Limited Wednesday Daniels (illness) was limited at practice Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact While Daniels was sidelined this past Sunday due to a bout with COVID-19, Maxx Williams, the Cardinals' No. 1 tight end, sustained a major injury to his left knee in that contest that forced him to injured reserve. After Arizona activated Daniels from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, he's suddenly the top tight end on the team, with Demetrius Harris behind him on the depth chart and Ross Travis on the practice squad. Daniels has just 12 catches for 122 yards and one touchdown in 50 career games, but merely getting to work with Kyler Murray could result in some utility at some point this season.
OCTOBER 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Back from COVID-19 list The Cardinals reinstated Daniels (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
Impact Daniels was sidelined for the Cardinals' Week 5 win over the 49ers after testing positive for the virus last Wednesday. Since he was vaccinated, Daniels was eligible to rejoin the Cardinals in less than 10 days after testing negative for the virus twice at least 24 hours apart. Before missing last week's contest, Daniels had been serving as the team's No. 2 tight end, but he could enjoy a long-term stay atop the depth chart beginning with Sunday's game in Cleveland. Maxx Williams exited the Cardinals' Week 5 loss with a knee injury that the team fears may be a season-ending ACL tear. Even if that's the case, Daniels likely wouldn't be much more than a tertiary option in the passing game, with the Cardinals instead relying on him mostly as a blocker.
OCTOBER 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Tests positive for COVID-19 Daniels was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday after testing positive for the virus, Howard Balzer of SI.com reports.
Impact Daniels will now be unavailable until he clears the health and safety protocols, which will require two negative COVID-19 tests administered 24 hours apart while not exhibiting any symptoms. Demetrius Harris should see more playing time behind starting tight end Maxx Williams while Daniels is sidelined.
OCTOBER 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Full participant in practice Daniels (toe) was a full participant in practice Friday and doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against Tennessee, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site re...
Impact Daniels returned from the reserve/COVID-19 list in mid-August but was limited in practice due to a toe injury Wednesday and Thursday. However, the 26-year-old will be able to suit up in Sunday's season opener as he prepares to compete for snaps alongside Maxx Williams.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Returns from COVID list The Cardinals activated Daniels (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Daniels spent less than a week clearing the league's COVID-19 protocols. He will resume operating alongside Maxx Williams as one of the Cardinals' top tight ends. Given the timing of his return, Daniels will have plenty of time to ramp up his workload before Friday's exhibition contest against the Chiefs.
AUGUST 16, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Moves to COVID list The Cardinals placed Daniels (undisclosed) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reports.
Impact Daniels and three other Cardinals are considered high-risk close contacts, hence the reason for this move. When he gets back on the field, he's the only Arizona tight end aside from starter Maxx Williams with experience in coach Kliff Kingsbury's offense. Last season, Daniels earned a 32.3 percent share of the offensive snaps en route to an 8-92-1 line on 11 targets in 12 games. Both his workload and number of targets could increase with Dan Arnold moving on to the Panthers this offseason.
AUGUST 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Back with Cards Daniels has signed a one-year deal with the Cardinals.
Impact With Dan Arnold no longer in the mix, Daniels gives the Cardinals some tight end depth and experience behind Maxx Williams?. The 26-year-old is off the fantasy radar, however, after recording eight catches (on 11 targets) for 92 yards and one touchdown in 12 games for Arizona in 2020.

Cardinals face tough choices on which veterans to keep

The Arizona Cardinals have some tough choices ahead in trying to decide which veterans to keep as they push for a playoff berth for the first time since 2015
MARCH 12, 2021
Puts together meager campaign Daniels recorded eight catches (on 11 targets) for 92 yards and one touchdown in 12 games during the 2020 campaign.
Impact Daniels endured a number of injuries this season and ultimately sat out Weeks 11-14 due to an ankle issue. While he finished with the second-most offensive snaps (365 of 1,131) behind Dan Arnold (470) and ahead of Maxx Williams (326) among Cardinals tight ends, Daniels put up a similar line to the latter's 8-102-1 in three additional appearances and on one more target. Heading into the offseason, only Williams is under contract, with the future of unrestricted free agents Arnold and Daniels up in the air.
