Inactive for Week 2 Grupe (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers.

Impact Despite Grupe being signed to the 53-man roster, the Jets have opted to elevate Jason Sanders from the practice squad for a second consecutive week to serve as the team's kicker. Grupe's spot on the roster is in jeopardy, though he would certainly be in line to take over as the Jets' kicker if Sanders struggles.

Officially inactive Week 1 Grupe (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Titans, Amanda Vogt of the Jets' official site reports.

Impact The Jets opted to elevate Jason Sanders from the practice squad, and he'll handle kicking duties in the season opener. New York could take a week-to-week approach with the kicker spot, with Sanders' performance in the opener likely being a factor in whether he or Grupe gets the nod for the Week 2 game against the Packers.

Won't be starting kicker Week 1 Grupe will not be the Jets' starting kicker for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Titans, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

Impact It looked like Grupe would be the Jets' starter for 2026 after he was claimed off waivers from the Colts on Aug. 31. However, the Jets have opted to elevate Jason Sanders from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday, so Grupe figures to be inactive for Week 1. Grupe made all 11 of his field-goal attempts and each of his 10 extra-point tries over his final five games of the 2025 regular season as a member of the Colts.

Set to be starting kicker with Jets Grupe has a clearer path to the Jets' kicking job after the team released Jason Sanders on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Impact After being claimed off waivers earlier Monday, Grupe is now the lone kicker on the Jets' roster after the team elected to let Sanders go. Grupe appears to be on track to serve as the team's starting kicker this season after he went 29-for-37 on field-goal attempts while making all 25 of his extra-point tries over 16 regular-season contests with the Saints and Colts last year.

Latches on with NYJ Grupe was claimed off waivers by the Jets on Monday, Antwan V. Staley of the New York Daily News reports.

Impact Grupe was cut loose by the Colts on Sunday after losing the kicking battle to Spencer Shrader during the preseason. The kicker went 2-for-4 on field-goal tries with Indianapolis during the preseason, and he will now compete with Jason Sanders for the starting job with New York ahead of Week 1 against the Titans on Sept 13.

Cut loose by Indianapolis Grupe was waived by the Colts on Sunday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Impact Grupe was in a competition with Spencer Shrader for the starting kicker role in Indianapolis this season, and he appears to have come up short. Grupe made two of four field-goal attempts during the preseason, while Shrader went a perfect 4-for-4 on field-goal tries. Grupe split his time between the Saints and Colts in 2025, going 29-for-37 on field-goal attempts, but he only converted five of 11 tries from 40-plus yards. He will now have to wait for his next chance to prove himself, and it's possible that he'll stick around as a member of the practice squad with Indianapolis.
