Ben Sinnott enters defining stretch after David Blough's blunt assessment
David Blough said Ben Sinnott has a long way to go, and he's right.

Held to three yards in Week 18
Sinnott caught both of his targets for three yards in Sunday's 24-17 win over Philadelphia.
Impact
The 2024 second-round pick finishes his second NFL season with a 11-114-1 receiving line on 13 targets. Sinnott played more than 50 percent of offensive snaps in each of the final four games, catching seven of nine targets for 73 yards during that stretch. The Commanders likely are in need of a new starting tight end with Zach Ertz recovering from an ACL tear and scheduled for free agency, but Sinnott hasn't shown much of anything to suggest he can be that player. There's still late-breakout argument, depending on Washington's offseason moves in the coming months.

Makes three grabs vs. Cowboys
Sinnott secured three of four targets for 29 yards during Thursday's 30-23 loss to Dallas.
Impact
Sinnott logged his first game of the season with more than a single grab during Washington's loss on Christmas Day, though he recorded a higher yardage total Week 15 versus the Giants due to a 36-yard downfield catch. The second-year pro played 61 percent of offensive snaps versus the Cowboys. Sinnott will close out the year as Washington's starting tight end during the team's regular-season finale on the road against Philadelphia in Week 18.

Muted output again
Sinnott caught one pass on two targets for five yards during the Commanders' 29-18 loss to the Eagles on Saturday.
Impact
Sinnott's lone catch came midway through the fourth quarter, when he hauled in a five-yard pass from Josh Johnson, the latter of whom replaced Marcus Mariota (hand) in the third frame. Sinnott has caught one pass in each of his last three games, and while his snap count on offense has increased after Zach Ertz tore his ACL in Week 14 against the Vikings, the former's offensive production has not. Next up for Sinnott and the Commanders is an NFC East home tilt against the Cowboys on Christmas Day.

Catches one pass vs. Giants
Sinnott caught his lone target for 36 yards in Sunday's 29-21 win over the Giants.
Impact
In Sinnott's first full game without Zach Ertz (knee), he logged a season-high 34 offensive snaps and finished with the third-most receiving yards on the Commanders. The 2024 second-round pick from Kansas State has now caught all five of his targets for 77 yards and a touchdown in 13 appearances this season. Sinnott may have an expanded offensive role and serve as Washington's top pass-catching tight end in the Week 16 matchup against the Eagles.

Catches lone target in Week 14 loss
Sinnott caught his lone target for an eight-yard gain during Washington's 31-0 loss to Minnesota on Sunday.
Impact
Sinnott played just 13 of 52 offensive snaps (25 percent), but the second-year tight end's role should be larger over the final four games of the regular season after Zach Ertz tore his ACL during Sunday's loss. With Ertz done for the year, Sinnott and John Bates will be the top tight end options on the Commanders' active roster while practice squad member Lawrence Cager provides depth at the position.

Cleared for Week 13
Sinnott (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation ahead of Washington's matchup versus the Broncos on Sunday.
Impact
Sinnott is healthy again after sustaining an ankle injury in the Week 10 loss to Detroit. The 2024 second-round pick should resume his role as the team's No. 3 tight end against Denver.

Downgraded to out
The Commanders announced Saturday that Sinnott (ankle) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins in Madrid.
Impact
Sinnott will miss his first game of the season due to an ankle injury, after he was added to Thursday's injury report as a limited participant and then missed practice entirely Friday. In his stead, John Bates and Colson Yankoff will handle expanded depth roles behind starting tight end Zach Ertz versus Miami on Sunday.

Questionable after Friday's DNP
Sinnott (ankle) didn't practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Impact
Sinnott's trending in the wrong direction, as he was added to Washington's injury report as a limited participant in practice Thursday and was unable to practice in any capacity Friday. John Bates and Colson Yankoff are available to provide depth behind Zach Ertz in Madrid against the Dolphins if Sinnott's declared out.

ROTOWIRE
Added to injury report
Sinnott (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday.
Impact
Sinnott wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, so it appears his ankle issue occurred during practice. The second-year pro has an opportunity to see increased receiving work Sunday versus the Dolphins in Madrid, if healthy enough to play, given that wide receivers Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Treylon Burks (finger) have both already been ruled out. That said, across 10 regular-season games so far Sinnott has only tallied three grabs for 31 yards and one touchdown (on three targets), as Zach Ertz remains Washington's clear top tight end.

Nabs second reception of season
Sinnott took the field for 11 of the Commanders' 53 offensive snaps and reeled in his lone target for a 22-yard gain in Monday's 28-7 loss to the Chiefs.
Impact
A second-round pick in 2024, Sinnott was lauded for his pass-catching chops coming out of Kansas State but has thus far struggled to carve out a role in his first season and a half in the professional ranks. He came through with one of the Commanders' bigger plays of the night Monday, but a lack of steady playing time will likely continue to hurt Sinnott's chances of making an impact in most weeks. Sinnott is the clear No. 3 tight end in Washington, with his 21 percent share in Week 8 placing him firmly behind Zach Ertz (62 percent) and John Bates (55 percent).

Finishes without a catch
Sinnott finished without a catch on one target in Monday's preseason loss to the Bengals.
Impact
Sinnott was a second-round pick last year, but there hasn't been much hint of him making a push to overtake 33-year-old Zach Ertz, who was among the players rested Monday night. Sinnott took a snap on the opening drive with Jayden Daniels, but only in a multi-TE formation, whereas John Bates was in for every play. It looks like Sinnott may just be the No. 3 TE again unless an injury to Ertz opens up the pass-catching role.
