Ben Sims - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates

Reaches injury settlement Sims (undisclosed) was waived from injured reserve after reaching an injury settlement with the Dolphins on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Impact Sims was placed on injured reserve by Miami with an undisclosed injury Sept. 1, and he was set to miss at least four contests to open the 2026 campaign. The tight end will now be placed on waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, he'll be free to pass a physical and sign elsewhere.

Reverts to IR Sims (undisclosed) reverted to the Dolphins' injured reserve Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Impact Sims was waived/injured by Miami on Monday, and he shifted over to the team's IR after not being claimed. He'll be forced to miss at least the next four games, though it's possible that he reaches an injury settlement with the Dolphins, allowing the Baylor product to sign and play with a team once fully healthy. Sims appeared in 11 regular-season games between the Packers (three games) and Vikings (eight games) in 2025, finishing with three catches (on six targets) for 30 yards.

Impact The tight end will revert to injured reserve unless he's claimed by another team. Gets one-year deal with Miami Sims and the Dolphins agreed to terms Wednesday on a one-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Impact Sims was on the Packers' active roster at the start of the 2025 campaign. He was waived by Green Bay in late October but opted to stay in the NFC North and signed with Minnesota, and he finished with three catches (on six targets) for 30 yards across eight regular-season games for the Vikings. Sims currently projects to serve as the Dolphins' TE2 behind Greg Dulcich, with the former likely to also contribute on special teams.

Gets first Vikings reception Sims had one reception for nine yards on his only target in Sunday's win over Washington.

Impact It was surprising to see Sims get a target as he'd played just ten snaps on offense since joining the Vikings in October. However, the Vikings used plenty of three-tight-end sets in the win. Sims isn't likely to get more than a few targets the rest of the season unless injuries strike T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver, however.

Healthy scratch Sunday Sims (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Lions.

Impact The tight end was claimed off waivers by the Vikings on Monday and appeared to have a chance to play with Josh Oliver dealing with a foot injury. Oliver is also inactive, but the Vikings are riding with T.J. Hockenson, Ben Yurosek and Nick Vannett for Sunday's contest. Vannett was elevated from the practice squad Saturday.

Staying in NFC North with Minnesota The Vikings claimed Sims off waivers from the Packers on Monday.

Impact Sims was waived by the Packers on Saturday, but he'll remain in the NFC North as a member of the Vikings, and his move corresponds with Carson Wentz (shoulder) being placed on injured reserve. Sims will give Minnesota added depth at tight end, and the third-year pro could have a meaningful role behind T.J. Hockenson and Ben Yurosek for this Sunday's game against the Lions if Josh Oliver (foot) is unable to play. Sims mostly played on special teams across his three-regular season appearances for the Packers prior to his removal from the roster.

Remains in bit role Sims was targeted five times and caught four passes for 42 yards across 17 games in the 2024 season.

Impact Sims appeared in every regular-season game the Packers played in 2024 and served as the backup tight end while Luke Musgrave missed 10 weeks, but he was mainly limited to blocking duties. The Packers know what they have in the third-year player, which bodes well for his chances of retaining a roster spot in 2025. However, chances are Green Bay will look to bring in at least another option behind starting tight end Tucker Kraft.

Expect him to continue working as the No. 2 tight end behind Tucker Kraft until Musgrave is ready to return.
