Eight carries Sunday Mattison had eight carries for 27 yards in Sunday's 31-30 loss to Tennessee.

Impact Mattison played on 16 of 65 snaps as he still had a decent role even on a day when Dalvin Cook had 181 yards rushing. Mattison had 10 touches Week 1 before just four touches last week, so his role off the bench will be inconsistent, but he has a chance to be involved enough for value in deeper formats, even when Cook is healthy.

Hardly contributes on stat sheet Mattison registered three carries for 13 yards while also contributing one catch for three receiving yards during Sunday's 28-11 loss to the Colts.

Impact There seemed to be a fantasy-relevant role available for Mattison based on Week 1, as he collected 80 scrimmage yards on 10 touches while fielding 37 percent of the offensive snaps against the Packers. Week 2 was certainly disappointing in comparison; Mattison totaled only four offensive touches to Dalvin Cook's 16. The fact that Minnesota fell into a significant hole on the scoreboard mitigated Mattison's involvement, but if the Vikings can keep the score close or even take a lead Week 3 against Tennessee, the second-year back is more likely to get involved.

Contributes as backup Mattison had six carries for 50 yards and four receptions on four targets for 30 yards in Sunday's loss to Green Bay.

Impact Mattison's fantasy value is mostly as the backup to starter Dalvin Cook in a run-oriented offense, so it was encouraging to see him get a sizeable workload in a game where Cook was healthy. Mattison had four targets in the passing game (one off his career high) and nearly had as many snaps on offense on pass plays as Cook (14 for Cook, 12 for Mattison). Cook still had more snaps on offense overall -- 30 to Mattison's 19 -- but this game bodes well for Mattison having value in deeper formats, even when Cook is healthy.

Enters camp as backup Mattison enters training camp in a backup role after Dalvin Cook decided against a holdout, the Vikings' official website reports.

Impact Mattison was a frequent subject of fantasy hype in June and July when Dalvin Cook announced his holdout from team activities. The fourth-year pro ended up reporting for training camp, but Mattison is still one of the more valuable backups in the league, given the nature of Minnesota's offense as well as the reality that Cook has missed multiple games in each of his three NFL seasons. Of course, the Vikings also have Mike Boone and passing-down specialist Ameer Abdullah on their roster, so there's no guarantee of Mattison taking on Cook-like workloads in the event of a Cook injury.
