Joins Jets' practice squad Martinez signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Martinez was cut by the Jets in August after spending the 2024 season on their practice squad. He had been with the 49ers organization for most of the 2025 campaign prior to getting cut from San Francisco's practice squad Tuesday. If neither Tyrod Taylor (groin) nor Justin Fields (knee) gain clearance to play Sunday against the Jaguars, Martinez would likely be elevated to back up undrafted rookie Brady Cook.

Cut by San Francisco Martinez was cut from the 49ers' practice squad Tuesday.

Impact Martinez has been on and off of the 49ers' practice squad this season, even appearing in one game with the team in Week 9 against the Giants. The quarterback will now be subject to waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, there's a decent chance that he rejoins San Francisco's practice unit down the road this year.

Back with San Francisco The 49ers signed Martinez to the practice squad Tuesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Impact Martinez was cut from the 53-man roster over the weekend after Brock Purdy was cleared to return from his toe injury. Martinez will continue to provide organizational depth at quarterback behind Purdy and Mac Jones.

Cut by San Francisco The 49ers waived Martinez on Saturday.

Impact Martinez's services on the 49ers' active roster are no longer needed as Mac Jones will revert to a backup role for Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to the return of Brock Purdy (toe). Martinez could be brought back by San Francisco on the practice squad, assuming he clears waivers.

Purdy returned for Week 4 against the Jaguars but has been ruled out for Thursday's game in Los Angeles, so Martinez will once again be the QB2 while Jones makes his third start of the regular season.

Reverts to practice squad Martinez reverted to the 49ers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.

Impact With Brock Purdy (toe/shoulder) and Kurtis Rourke (knee) both unavailable for Sunday's game against the Saints, Martinez was elevated to the active roster to serve as the 49ers' backup quarterback behind Mac Jones. Elevated Saturday Martinez was elevated from the 49ers' practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Impact Martinez signed with the 49ers' practice squad after failing to make the Jets' 53-man roster in late August. Brock Purdy (shoulder) and Kurtis Rourke (knee) are both expected to miss San Francisco's Week 2 matchup against the Saints, so Martinez's signing ensures depth at quarterback. He's expected to back up Mac Jones on Sunday.
