Listed as starter opposite Wilson Mitchell is listed as a starting wide receiver on the Jets' initial depth chart ahead of Week 1 against the Titans.

Impact It's no surprise after Mitchell showed playmaking ability with New York following his midseason trade from the Colts last season. In eight games with the Jets, Mitchell caught 24 of 58 targets for 301 yards and two touchdowns. That 41.4 percent catch rate ranked second-worst in the NFL out of 197 qualified wide receivers, but better quarterback play this season in the form of veteran pickup Geno Smith should help improve that number. Mitchell has big-play upside and is dripping with talent; he just needs to get out of his own way sometimes. He's worth a late-round flier in fantasy and makes for an intriguing best-ball selection.

NFL Catchup: Geno Smith Delivers In Preseason, Tyreek Hill Still In Recovery Mode

Two quick catches in preseason win Mitchell caught both of his targets for 29 yards in Friday's 17-0 preseason win over the Steelers.

Impact Geno Smith completed seven passes to six different targets on the game's opening drive, and Mitchell is the only receiver whom Smith connected with twice. They linked up for an eight-yard gain on Smith's first pass and combined for a 21-yard pickup on the very next play. Mitchell and Smith have reportedly developed strong chemistry in training camp, and that was on display during their brief time in the game Friday. The Jets drafted WR Omar Cooper 30th overall, but all signs point to Mitchell opening the season as a starter on the outside opposite Garrett Wilson.

Viewed as No. 2 receiver Jets receivers coach Shawn Jefferson implied Tuesday that Mitchell is seen as the team's No. 2 wideout heading into the upcoming season, Antwan V. Staley of the New York Daily News...

Impact The Jets selected invested the 30th overall pick in April's draft into another wideout in Omar Cooper, but he looks set to work in the No. 3 role to begin his career after Mitchell was able to make a positive impression late last season upon coming over from the Colts in a November trade. While Wilson was sidelined by a knee injury over the Jets' final eight games, Mitchell racked up 58 targets during that stretch, though shoddy quarterback play was a factor in him turning those looks into just 24 receptions for 301 yards and two scores. With veteran Geno Smith directing the offense in 2026, Mitchell should stand to see an improvement in efficiency, though a healthy Wilson remains the unquestioned centerpiece of the Jets' passing game and will see the largest target share.
