Impact Sainz ran into trouble in both the sprint and traditional qualifying, which gave him a difficult and unrealistic path to points. He was unable to switch on overtake mode on is engine during sprint qualifiyng, which he estimated cost him roughly 0.5 seconds on his lap. Sainz was then impeded by Nico Hulkenberg in Q2 of traditional qualifying, causing him to start 14th on the grid. The end result was another lackluster finish.

Bad luck in Bahrain GP Sainz finished 17th in the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia F1 race at Sepang International Circuit on Sunday.

Impact Sainz had one of his better qualifying performances of the season and lined up 13th on the grid. He and Williams got the strategy right early in the race, starting Sainz on intermediates before returning to slicks. However, he was hit by Gabriel Bortoleto, causing him to spin and lose track position. That doomed Sainz's race, but there were still positives to take away from the weekend.

Qualifying Infringement Sainz has been handed a grid penalty for the Spanish Grand Prix after a Qualifying infringement, Formula1.com reports.

Impact The Williams veteran was determined to have impeded Valtteri Bottas during the final minutes of Q1 Saturday at the Madring Circuit. The incident occurred in turn 7 and it was found that Sainz unnecessarily impeded the Cadillac driver. Sainz will lose his P17 qualifying spot as a result and face a tougher grand prix Sunday in Madrid.

Impact The Williams remains buried among the midfield teams in terms of pace, but Sainz got a great result in China.
