Impact The Tigers had an extra spot available on their big-league pitching staff after unloading Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize ahead of the trade deadline, so they'll call upon Diaz to provide extra bullpen depth until the team has to fill the empty rotation spots. The 25-year-old righty has posted a 2.38 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 11.1 innings since joining the Tigers organization in June and will likely be limited to low-leverage work as long as he's with Detroit.

Impact Diaz was designated for assignment last weekend after he was tagged for seven runs on seven hits and one walk across two-thirds of an inning in last Saturday's loss to the Twins. The 25-year-old will get a fresh start in Detroit's organization.

Impact Diaz was transferred from Triple-A Reno to the Arizona Complex League May 26 as the Diamondbacks hoped to get Diaz back on track. Prior to that transaction, the right-hander had been issuing an abundance of walks. In an ACL appearance June 7, the 24-year-old allowed two earned runs across two innings, but struck out five and walked none.

Impact The Diamondbacks want Diaz to get right after walking at least five batters in four consecutive starts. He showed improved strike-throwing ability in 2024 but has taken a huge step backwards this season.
