Impact Wagner served as a strong-side platoon player for most of his three-week stay in the big leagues, slashing .257/.422/.286 while scoring five runs in 16 games. Since Wagner was likely to become an odd man out of the lineup with another left-handed hitter in Jake Cronenworth (concussion) returning from the 7-day injured list Moday, the Padres opted to send the 27-year-old to Triple-A so that he can continue to play regularly.

Impact Since Wagner was called up from Triple-A El Paso on June 9, most of his absences from the lineup have come against left-handed pitching, but he'll take a seat against right-hander Emmet Sheehan on Sunday. Impact He will take the roster spot vacated by Xander Bogaerts and might be around only while Bogaerts is on paternity leave. Wagner has put up a .762 OPS with three home runs and a 21:19 BB:K over 30 games this season for El Paso.

Impact Wagner opened the season on the shelf after he strained his right oblique at the beginning of March. After a prolonged shutdown, Wagner was cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A to kick off May, and since the Padres didn't have room for him on their big-league bench, he'll end up sticking around at El Paso on a longer-term basis. Through his first seven games at Triple-A, Wagner has slashed .300/.548/.350 with two stolen bases and a 9:6 BB:K over 31 plate appearances.
