Secures win Sunday
Vest (2-4) pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win in Sunday's 5-4 victory over the Mariners. He allowed a hit and struck out one.
Impact
Vest worked through the top of the ninth inning on 10 pitches, then secured his second win of the year when the Tigers scored twice in the bottom half to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 win. The veteran righty has had a bumpy season, and a five-run outing back on May 26 is a big reason he's sitting with an inflated 6.53 ERA. However, with Kenley Jansen (pelvis) on the injured list, Vest is Detroit's most experienced healthy reliever, and he should continue to see high-leverage work as a result.

Tigers hit 5 home runs and hold off Rays 10-9 to halt skid behind Dingler, Carpenter and Greene

Allows run but secures first save
Vest allowed a run on two hits across 1.2 innings of relief but managed to secure the save in Monday's 10-9 win over the Rays. He struck out two.
Impact
With Kyle Finnegan recording a blown save in four of his last nine appearances and Kenley Jansen (pelvis) on the injured list, the Tigers turned to Vest to close things out Monday. The veteran righty allowed at least one run for the third time in his last five games and now has an unsightly 7.23 ERA, but he still managed to shut the door for his first save of the year. Finnegan worked earlier in the contest, and both he and Vest could continue to get save opportunities for however long Jansen is out, making this a tricky bullpen for fantasy purposes.

Blows save Wednesday
Vest allowed a run on two hits across an inning of work and was charged with a blown save in Wednesday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Guardians. He struck out one.
Impact
The Tigers decided to use regular closer Kenley Jansen in the eighth inning against the top of Cleveland's lineup to protect a 1-0 lead. That left the ninth for Vest, and the veteran allowed the lead to slip away on a pair of hits and an RBI groundout. Vest has struggled this year with a 5.93 ERA across 13.2 innings, which should leave no doubt that Jensen is ahead of him in the bullpen pecking order moving forward.

Activated from injured list
The Tigers activated Vest (forearm) from the 15-day IL on Sunday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Vest will return to Detroit's bullpen after missing three weeks due to a forearm injury. He should immediately slot into a high-leverage role and will look to rebound from a rough start to the season, as he posted a 6.17 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 13 appearances before being sidelined. Ty Madden is headed to the IL due to a bruised forearm, which will clear a spot on the 26-man roster for Vest.

Could return Sunday
Manager A.J. Hinch said Saturday that Vest (forearm) could return from the injured list Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact
Vest is reportedly on his way to join the team in Detroit after making a rehab appearance with Triple-A Toledo, during which he struck out one batter while pitching a perfect inning. Once activated, the 30-year-old righty will likely slot back into a high-leverage role despite turning in a 6.17 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through his first 11.2 innings.

Beginning rehab assignment
Vest (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Vest was placed on the 15-day injured list with forearm inflammation earlier this month and started throwing off a mound again earlier this week. Assuming everything goes well with his rehab assignment, Vest should rejoin the Detroit bullpen next week. He has a 6.17 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB across 11.2 innings this season.

Throwing off mound
Vest (forearm) threw a bullpen session Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact
It was the first time Vest had thrown off a mound since landing on the injured list May 2 with forearm inflammation. He'll be eligible to return from the IL on Thursday, though he's likely to throw a few additional bullpen and live batting practice sessions before being activated.

Receives cortisol injection
Vest (forearm) received a cortisol injection Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Vest landed on the injured list Saturday due to inflammation in his right forearm. He's expected to resume throwing within the next several days, though it's unknown whether he'll be ready to return from the IL when eligible Thursday.

Lands on injured list
The Tigers placed Vest on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right forearm inflammation, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Vest hasn't appeared in a game since Sunday, and manager A.J. Hinch hinted Friday that Vest's absence has been due to some kind of injury. Now that he's known to be dealing with a forearm issue, he'll spend the next couple of weeks on the injured list while Ricky Vanasco comes up from Triple-A Toledo to fill the void in Detroit's bullpen.

Nursing undisclosed injury
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Friday that Vest is "not at 100 percent" physically, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact
Hinch declined to divulge any additional details, but Vest hasn't pitched since Sunday and it's unclear if he's available out of the bullpen for Friday's game against the Rangers. Vest has made 13 appearances for Detroit in 2026, collecting a 6.17 ERA and 13:6 K:BB over 11.2 innings.

Sustains third loss Friday
Vest (1-3) allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk across 1.1 innings of relief to take the loss Friday in extra innings against the Red Sox. He struck out two.
Impact
Vest covered the bottom of the ninth inning in a 0-0 game and was then asked to come back out in the 10th. The veteran uncorked a wild pitch and ended up allowing a single to Masataka Yoshida that brought home the automatic baserunner from third base to win the game for the Red Sox. Despite taking his third loss of the season, Vest managed to lower his ERA from 6.75 to 5.63, and he's only allowed two earned runs over his last six appearances to go along with 10 strikeouts, so he's pitching a bit better than his overall stats would suggest.

Strikes out side, earns win
Vest (1-2) struck out all three batters he faced in an inning of relief to earn the win in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Royals.
Impact
Vest was making his first relief appearance in five days, and he got hit hard his last time out, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while only retiring two batters. The veteran looked much better Tuesday while he lowered his ERA from 7.94 to 6.75. Vest has allowed five earned runs across two of his eight outings so far, but he's been spotless in his other six appearances, and better days should be ahead for the typically reliable righty after enduring a few hiccups in the early going.

Hit hard in second loss
Vest (0-2) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while only retiring two batters in relief to take the loss Thursday against the Twins.
Impact
Vest came on in the eighth inning with the game tied 1-1, and he quickly let things unravel before getting the hook in favor of Brant Hurter. Five of Vest's seven appearances so far this season have been scoreless efforts, but he's allowed five runs across his other two outings. That has the veteran righty's ERA at 7.94 overall. Vest had a 3.01 regular-season ERA for the Tigers in 2025, and he was below 3.00 in the two years before that, so his track record suggests that he'll be able to bounce back from this sluggish start.

Joins WBC roster
Vest will join Team USA ahead of the quarterfinal round of the World Baseball Classic, replacing his teammate Tarik Skubal, Brian Murphy of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Skubal went back and forth on sticking around with Team USA, but with the lefty ultimately departing the roster, the team will replace him with another southpaw in Vest, who posted a 3.01 ERA and 75 strikeouts across 68.2 regular-season innings for Detroit last year. Vest gives the United States a reliable veteran option who can pitch some high-leverage innings out of the bullpen. The U.S. is set to face Canada on Friday, and it's possible that Vest will be used in that game, though it remains to be seen exactly what his usage will look like right out of the gate.

Avoids arbitration with DET
Vest agreed to a one-year, $3.95 million contract with the Tigers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact
The right-hander will more than double his salary from 2025, during which he posted a 3.01 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 75:22 K:BB over 68.2 regular-season innings while converting 23 of 30 save chances. Vest should see some saves in 2026 but could be used more often as a setup man given that Detroit signed Kyle Finnegan and Kenley Jansen this winter.
