GAME LOG

Luis García Jr. - Power surge continues Garcia went 4-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Orioles.
Impact Not only did Garcia tally his second four-hit game of the year, but he's now launched four homers in his past five outings. Additionally, the first baseman has blasted 11 long balls to go with 27 RBI over his last 28 contests (94 at-bats). Through 265 plate appearances, Garcia is hitting .273 with 14 big flies, 13 doubles and 50 RBI.

Justin Lawrence - Escapes with save in team debut Lawrence secured the save Saturday against the Orioles, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk in a scoreless 10th inning.
Impact Clayton Beeter kept Baltimore off the board with a scoreless ninth frame, and then Lawrence got the call for the 10th after Washington took the lead in the top of the inning. Lawrence, who was making his Nationals debut Saturday, has previous closing experience with the Rockies, though it's hard to envision him being trusted with consistent high-leverage work. Lawrence has a 7.76 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 37:22 K:BB over 29 innings for the Pirates, Twins and the Nats this year.

Foster Griffin - Outstanding stretch continues Griffin took a no-decision Saturday against the Orioles, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out nine.
Impact A throwing error by Nasim Nunez in the second inning kept an earned run off Griffin's ledger Saturday. After being out of the major leagues since 2023, Griffin has been a revelation for the Nationals in 2026. The 30-year-old southpaw has given up fewer than two runs in five straight starts, and he's now recorded nine strikeouts in back-to-back outings. Griffin will take an impressive 2.93 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 98:25 K:BB over 98.1 innings into his next scheduled appearance against Pittsburgh.

Keibert Ruiz - Idle Saturday Ruiz is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles.
Impact After going 1-for-3 with an RBI in the series opener against Baltimore, Ruiz will ride the bench for the second game of the series. Drew Millas will be behind the plate and bat ninth Saturday.

Andrew Alvarez - Stuck with first loss Friday Alvarez (1-1) took the loss Friday as the Nationals were downed 3-1 by the Orioles, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out five.
Impact The 27-year-old didn't pitch poorly, although he needed 88 pitches (53 strikes) to record 13 outs, but Alvarez didn't get much help as the Nats' offense was held in check by Trevor Rogers. Alvarez has yet to complete five innings in any of his 10 big-league appearances (five starts) this season, making him tough to roster in fantasy formats any time he gets a traditional start rather than working behind an opener, but over 21 innings in June he's produced a 3.00 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB.

Trevor Williams - Cleared for rehab assignment Williams (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Fredericksburg on Sunday, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact Williams is finally ready to pitch in games again following last July's internal brace procedure on his right elbow. The veteran right-hander will likely need most, if not all, of the allotted 30 days a pitcher receives on a rehab assignment, but should be ready to rejoin the Nationals' active roster sometime in July.

Zak Kent - Back in majors The Nationals recalled Kent from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.
Impact He'll grab the roster and bullpen spot vacated by Gus Varland, who was optioned to Rochester following Thursday's loss to the Phillies. Kent has made six appearances this season in the majors between the Twins and Nationals, allowing nine runs (six earned) over 9.1 frames.

Dylan Crews - Three hits in loss to Philly Crews went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Thursday's loss to the Phillies.
Impact The 24-year-old may finally be showing signs of living up to his draft billing after being the second overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft. Crews has four multi-hit performances in the last six games, batting .400 (10-for-25) over that surge with two doubles, a homer, a steal, three RBI and eight runs. Crews also has a 0:7 BB:K during that stretch, and a 2:28 BB:K in 128 MLB plate appearances this season as plate discipline remains his biggest hurdle.
5 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Andrés Chaparro - Struggles at plate continue Chaparro went 0-for-3 with a run scored in Thursday's loss to the Phillies.
Impact Getting the start at first base and batting third, Chaparro crossed the plate in the first inning after getting hit by a pitch, but it was his only contribution in a 10-5 loss. Since returning to the majors in mid-May, Chaparro is slashing just .172/.368/.241 with zero homers in 38 plate appearances, but for now he'll continue to operate as a short-side platoon partner for Luis Garcia.
5 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Curtis Mead - Swats 14th homer Mead went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Phillies.
Impact The 25-year-old went deep for the second straight game and the third time in the last four, ripping a Cristopher Sanchez first-pitch sinker over the left-fiend fence in the first inning. Mead is still having trouble stringing together base hits -- his last multi-hit performance came June 10, and he's batting just .146 (6-for-41) over 12 contests since then -- but he's already popped for career-best power numbers with 14 home runs and 39 RBI in 237 plate appearances this season.

Clayton Beeter - Can't put out fire in blown save Beeter blew the save Thursday against the Phillies, allowing no runs on no hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.
Impact Beeter was charged with his fourth blown save after allowing two inherited runners to score and tie the game in the seventh inning. Washington's beleaguered bullpen is searching for answers, as it surrendered 15 combined runs in the ninth inning over this four-game series with Philadelphia. The Nationals optioned the struggling Gus Varland to Triple-A Rochester immediately following Thursday's loss, perhaps rendering Beeter, who has a 3.33 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 26:18 K:BB over 24.1 frames, as the favorite for saves while the team evaluates their high-leverage arms.

Cade Cavalli - Settles for no-decision Cavalli took a no-decision Thursday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out seven.
Impact The quality start was the first of the month for Cavalli, whose seven punchouts also marked his highest total in June so far. The 27-year-old right-hander was in line for the win, exiting the game with a 5-2 lead before the seventh inning, but Washington's much-maligned bullpen blew its 24th save of the season Thursday. Cavalli will take a pedestrian 4.00 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 89:29 K:BB over 83.1 innings into his next scheduled outing in Boston against a Red Sox team that's struggled mightily at home in 2026.
