Claimed by M's The Mariners claimed Watson off waivers from Detroit on Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma.

Impact Watson was DFA'd by the Tigers on Wednesday despite having posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 55 innings with the team's Triple-A affiliate. The 29-year-old righty has yet to make his MLB debut, but he could receive an opportunity to pitch for Seattle at some point if he continues to pitch well at Tacoma.

Impact Detroit added Watson to its 40-man roster July 19, but he remained at Triple-A Toledo and didn't wind up making any appearances for the big club before getting DFA'd to clear room for Corey Julks, whose contract was selected from Triple-A. While handling a swingman role at Toledo this season, Watson has submitted a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 38:18 K:BB over 55 innings.

Impact Watson had his contract selected by the big-league club to be placed on the 40-man roster, but was then immediately optioned back to Triple-A Toledo. In 11 games with Toledo, the 29-year-old has posted a 3.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB through 46 innings. To make room for Watson on the 40-man roster, the Tigers transferred Will Vest to the 60-day injured list.

Impact Watson got off to a delayed start to the season while completing his recovery from arthroscopic right elbow surgery, but he's been a strong performer out of the Toledo rotation after completing a rehab assignment and returning from the IL. Despite his strong numbers at Triple-A, Watson doesn't look to have a clear path to a promotion anytime soon due to the crowded nature of the Detroit rotation and his lack of a 40-man roster spot.

Impact Watson is attending Tigers camp as a non-roster invitee, but he may not have enough time to complete his throwing program and make his Grapefruit League debut by the end of the spring. Whenever he's back to full health, Watson is likely to head to Triple-A Toledo, where he'll presumably settle back into a starting role. After beginning last season as a reliever, Watson held his own upon moving into the Toledo rotation, logging a 3.20 ERA while punching out 59 batters over 70.1 innings across 14 starts.

Re-ups with Tigers as NRI The Tigers re-signed Watson to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact Watson, 28, split the 2025 season between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo, collecting a 2.75 ERA and 97:37 K:BB over 104.2 innings. While Watson has yet to pitch in the majors, the Tigers considered him for a promotion in September when they needed a spot starter before they ultimately chose Troy Melton for that assignment. He'll earn $1.2 million in 2026 if he makes the major-league roster, per Petzold.
