Impact Barrera was drafted by the Nationals and broke into the big leagues with them. The 31-year-old catcher spent 2025 in the minors in the Rays organization and last saw action in the majors in 2023. Barrera will likely begin the 2026 season at Triple-A Rochester as catching depth.

Impact Barrera was attending camp as a non-roster invitee, but he never stood much of a chance to win an Opening Day roster spot so long as both Danny Jansen (ribs) and Ben Rortvedt were ready to go for the start of the season. The 30-year-old will likely head to Triple-A Durham and provide depth behind the plate.

Receives NRI from Tampa Bay The Rays signed Barrera to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact Barrera, 30, has hit .228/.313/.310 over parts of four seasons at the big-league level. He will give the Rays another catcher for their pitchers to throw to in camp but is pegged for Triple-A Durham to begin the season.

Impact Barrera will head to the open market this offseason and will presumably be on the lookout for a minor-league deal. Over 245 plate appearances with Memphis, the 29-year-old backstop slashed .213/.306/.343 with seven home runs.
