Braves call up top prospect Anderson to face Cole, Yankees

The Atlanta Braves have called up top prospect Ian Anderson to make his big league debut against Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees

Inconsistency has plagued Toussaint at the big-league level, as he had a splendid nine-strikeout outing against the Blue Jays earlier this year, but followed that up by walking nine batters over his next 8.1 innings (three appearances). He could rejoin the big-league club when it needs a fresh bullpen arm later this summer.

Impact Though the Braves headed into the weekend with just three healthy rotation members -- including two in Josh Tomlin and Robbie Erlin who were recently promoted from the bullpen -- manager Brian Snitker decided he had seen enough from Toussaint as a starter. Over his four starts, Toussaint gave up 13 runs (12 earned) on 13 hits and 10 walks over 17.2 innings, prompting the Braves to move him back to a relief role. The Braves will have to settle on a new replacement in the rotation for Toussaint on Tuesday against the Yankees, with Mark Bowman of MLB.com speculating that 22-year-old prospect Ian Anderson could get the chance to make his MLB debut.

Not starting this weekend Toussaint won't start during the upcoming weekend series against the Phillies.

Impact It was reported earlier in the day that the 24-year-old would be taking the mound for Sunday's series finale, but Josh Tomlin will be starting instead. The Braves have two scheduled off days next week, so it's possible Toussaint is shifted to the bullpen until Atlanta requires the full complements of its starting rotation.
