Struggles continue Tuesday Kahnle allowed two runs on two hits and two walks across 1.1 innings of relief in Tuesday's 9-6 loss to the White Sox. He struck out two.

Impact Kahnle has allowed at least one run in five of his last six outings, and he has a 9.53 ERA during the rough stretch. Since the start of July, the veteran's ERA is an even uglier 16.36. Before then, Kahnle was having a nice season with a 1.77 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 31 strikeouts across his first 35.2 innings of 2025, but he's now sitting with a 5.21 ERA and 1.33 WHIP, and the righty has quickly fallen out of favor in the Detroit bullpen.

Pitches better Monday Kahnle tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Pirates.

Impact After a brutal stretch of three games in which he allowed nine earned runs while retiring only three batters, Kahnle looked better Monday. Prior to the rough patch, the veteran righty had a 2.84 ERA, and he posted a sub-3.00 ERA each of the last two seasons. Kahnle's ERA is still sitting at an uncharacteristically high 4.73 this year, but he can whittle it down if he strings together a few more positive outings.

Struggles over weekend In games against the Mariners on Saturday and Sunday, Kahnle allowed seven earned runs on six hits and two walks without retiring a single batter.

Impact Kahnle had two of his worst outings of the season on consecutive days, and he saw his ERA climb from 2.84 to 4.50 in the process. This whole month of July has been a struggle for the righty, as he's allowed 12 earned runs on 11 hits and five walks across six appearances (2.1 innings). Meanwhile, Will Vest continues to pitch well as Detroit's closer, sitting with a 2.30 ERA and a team-high 15 saves. At this point, Vest is clearly the reliever to target in the Tigers' bullpen.

Notches ninth save Kahnle walked one and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Saturday in Cleveland.

Impact The right-hander issued a two-out walk but otherwise had no issues finishing off Detroit's 1-0 victory. It's the first save since June 4 for Kahnle, which is especially encouraging after a five-run blowup earlier this week in Washington. Will Vest leads the Tigers with 14 saves and appears to be the club's top closing option, but Kahnle is clearly still in the mix with a 2.89 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB over 37.1 innings this year.

It's the first save since June 4 for Kahnle, which is especially encouraging after a five-run blowup earlier this week in Washington. Earns hold Sunday Kahnle worked around a hit to toss a scoreless eighth inning and earn a hold in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Twins.

Impact After Detroit starter Tarik Skubal dazzled across seven scoreless innings, Kahnle served as the bridge to Will Vest, who ultimately secured his 13th save of the season in the ninth. Kahnle now has 11 holds this year to go along with eight saves of his own. The veteran righty also has a stellar 1.77 ERA and 0.79 WHIP through 35.2 innings. While Vest is the team's top closer for the moment, Kahnle isn't far behind, and his high-leverage role and strong ratios give him standalone fantasy value.

Converts on save chance Kahnle picked up the save Wednesday against the White Sox, throwing a perfect ninth inning with no strikeouts.

Impact Will Vest has been Detroit's preferred ninth-inning option lately, receiving four of the last five save opportunities, but it was Kahnle who worked the final frame Wednesday. Vest allowed two runs on five hits in those chances and converted each one. However, Vest threw the seventh and eighth frames Wednesday. Kahnle is up to eight saves this season -- one fewer than Vest -- and it's likely the two will continue to split work.

Picks up seventh save Kahnle struck out two in two perfect innings Wednesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Giants.

Impact With Will Vest having picked up saves in the first two games of the series Monday and Tuesday, Kahnle was brought in to bail out John Brebbia with runners on second and third and nobody out in the eighth inning. After escaping that jam, Kahnle stayed on the mound and dispatched San Francisco's 2-3-4 hitters in the ninth to earn his second save in May. Vest appears to be the preferred closing option for Detroit right now, but Kahnle remains in the ninth-inning mix thanks to a 1.52 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB through 23.2 innings.

Tarik Skubal wants to be an inning-eating workhorse, even if MLB has changed

Earns another hold Monday Kahnle tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Monday's 3-1 win over the Giants to record his sixth hold of the season.

Impact Kahnle is now second on the team with his six holds, and he also has six saves, which is tied with Will Vest for the team lead. It was Vest who earned the save Monday, working the ninth inning after Kahnle cruised through the eighth on only 10 pitches. The two veteran righties are locked into a closer-by-committee arrangement for the time being, giving them both some fantasy value but also limiting their upside. Kahnle has earned the right to close out games, as he's now sitting with a 1.66 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 20 strikeouts across 21.2 innings this year.
