Takes seat Sunday Pham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
Impact After a month-long stay on the 10-day injured list due to a fractured hand, Pham returned to action as the Padres' designated hitter over the past two games, going 2-for-7 with a walk between those two contests. Though Eric Hosmer will serve as the Padres' DH in the series finale, Pham should serve as the primary option at that lineup spot during the final week of the regular season.

Reaches base twice in return Pham went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run in a win over the Mariners on Friday.
Impact Pham was reinstated from the injured list prior to the contest and slotted into the sixth spot in the order as the team's DH. He drew a walk in his first plate appearance and later scored the Padres' second run after leading off the fourth frame with a single. Pham figures to use the final week of the campaign to shake off any rust due to his recent hand surgery in order to gear up for the playoffs. He's slashing .212/.323/.294 with six stolen bases in 24 games this season.

Placed on injured list Pham (hand) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday.
Impact Pham was diagnosed with a fracture in the hamate bone on his right hand Monday, so it's no surprise to see him land on the injured list. He's expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks as a result of the injury, but it's possible that could return at the end of the regular season if the Padres are in playoff contention. Infielder Ty France was recalled in a corresponding move. Jurickson Profar, Edward Olivares and Jorge Mateo could see increases in playing time while Pham is sidelined.

Projected to miss 4-to-6 weeks Pham is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after manager Jayce Tingler told MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM on Monday that the designated hitter/outfielder fractured the hamate bone on hi...
Impact As anticipated, Pham will need surgery to address the injury, with his recovering timetable expected to extend into the final two weeks of the regular season. The playoff-hopeful Padres will likely have Pham prepare for a potential late-season return if the club still remains in playoff contention, but his fantasy managers in shallow leagues and likely even most deeper mixed leagues are probably best served cutting bait rather than waiting on him to heal up. Tingler mentioned Josh Naylor as a candidate to pick up Pham's vacated spot in the lineup, and fellow youngsters Edward Olivares and Jorge Mateo could also benefit from more starts. The Padres are expected to officially place Pham on the injured list prior to Monday's series opener against the Rangers.

AUGUST 17, 2020 • THESCORE.COM
Out with fractured hand Padres manager Jayce Tingler told Jim Duquette of Sirius XM Radio on Monday that Pham fractured the hamate bone in his right hand during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Impact Though the skipper didn't offer specifics on Pham's next steps, the 32-year-old will head to the injured list and will almost certainly require surgery to repair the broken bone. Once surgery is completed, the Padres should offer a clearer timeline for Pham's recovery, but he'll likely be sidelined for multiple weeks and could very well be shut down for the season. Josh Naylor was recalled from the Padres' alternate site ahead of Sunday's game and could be a candidate to fill Pham's spot in the everyday lineup. Edward Olivares and Jorge Mateo could also benefited from added opportunities sans Pham.

Leaves game with numb hand Pham left Sunday's game with numbness in his right hand, Judson Richards of XTRA1360 reports.
Impact Pham was pulled from Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks in the middle of an at-bat in the ninth inning after fouling a ball off. Manager Jayce Tingler said after the game that he was dealing with a numb right hand. The 32-year-old is expected to be examined Sunday and Monday, after which a better idea of the severity should become clear. Pham also left Saturday's game with cramping in his calves but was able to serve as the designated hitter Sunday.

Cleared for DH duty Pham (calf) will serve as the Padres' designated hitter and will bat fifth Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Impact Pham was removed early in Saturday's 7-6 loss when he suffered from calf cramps, but after getting rehydrated, he'll be good to go for the series finale. The 32-year-old is off to a rough start to August, batting .167 with 15 strikeouts in 48 at-bats so far this month.

Exits with calf cramps Pham left Saturday's game against Arizona with cramping in both his calves.
Impact Pham's initial diagnosis doesn't make it sound as though he's in line for a particularly lengthy absence, though the Padres have yet to release a timeline for his return. He's been the team's primary designated hitter of late, and if he's forced to miss time, the team could simply rotate several players through the position as they were doing earlier in the year.

Launches second long ball Pham went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Dodgers.
Impact Pham got the Padres off to a strong start with a solo blast to left field in the first inning, but that was his only hit on a night in which he also struck out twice. The 32-year-old has been in a cold spell over his last 10 games, hitting .135 (5-for-37) with only one extra-base hit -- Thursday's homer -- and 10 strikeouts over that span.
