Power lacking at Double-A
Johnson is slashing .270/.353/.386 with nine home runs and 20 steals in 109 games for Double-A Altoona.
Impact
His slash line doesn't excite, but he's been 15 percent better than the average Eastern League hitter. For what it's worth, Johnson's been racking up hits of late, batting .370 with a .446 OBP over his last 18 games, although none of his 27 hits during this stretch have left the yard. Johnson will likely be given more opportunities than his overall skill set might otherwise warrant due to the fact he was the No. 4 overall pick in 2022, but his dynasty stock is trending down, as he hasn't slugged over .400 since he was at High-A in 2023.

Collects two hits in return
Johnson (knee) went 2-for-5 with a double and one run scored during Sunday's game against Double-A Somerset.
Impact
Johnson picked up a minor knee injury during Friday's matchup against the Patriots, but it only sidelined the 20-year-old for one game. His quick return to the field is positive news for the organization, which hopes to see the young prospect take another step forward in 2025 after struggling in his brief taste of action at Double-A a season ago.

Dealing with knee injury
Johnson suffered a knee injury during Double-A Altoona's 12-1 loss to Somerset on Friday, Jarrod Prugar of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
Impact
Johnson sustained the injury in the seventh inning after colliding with a teammate in the outfield. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, and Altoona manager Andy Fox told reporters after the game that Johnson would undergo further testing Saturday to determine the severity of the injury. Johnson has begun the year in Double-A slashing .227/.346/.318 with eight walks, five stolen bases, seven runs scored, one home run and five RBI in 52 plate appearances.

Moves past foot injury
Johnson (foot) has played in two of Double-A Altoona's first three games of the season, going 2-for-8 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run.
Impact
Johnson's availability for the start of the minor-league season appeared to be in some question after he was unable to play in the Pirates' March 14 Spring Breakout game due to a bone bruise in his left foot, but he was evidently able to move past the issue a few weeks later. One of the top prospects in Pittsburgh's system, the 20-year-old Johnson is coming off a 2024 season in which he posted a .752 OPS with 15 home runs and 22 stolen bases over 124 games between Altoona and High-A Greensboro.

Dealing with foot bone bruise
Johnson was removed from the Pirates' spring breakout game roster due to a left foot bone bruise, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
It's not clear how long the injury might keep Johnson sidelined. The 20-year-old finished last season at Double-A Altoona and is likely headed back there for the start of the 2025 campaign.

Looks healthy for camp
Johnson (foot) was spotted taking grounders at second base during Thursday's spring training workout, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Impact
After suffering a right foot injury in an Oct. 9 game in the Arizona Fall League, Johnson was limited to just 11 games for the Scottsdale Scorpions and slashed .250/.444/.475 with a home run and three stolen bases. The injury doesn't appear to be anything that is limiting him early on during the spring, and though he's attending big-league camp with the Pirates, Johnson will likely be headed to Double-A Altoona to begin the 2025 season. The 20-year-old infielder remains one of Pittsburgh's top prospects and could make a push for his big-league debut later in the season if he continues to maintain high walk rates while putting his power and speed on display in the upper levels of the minors.

Injures leg during AFL game
Johnson was removed from an Arizona Fall League game Tuesday with a right foot injury, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
Impact
Johnson wasn't able to put any weight on his right leg/foot after taking a swing and had to be carried off the field by trainers. The 20-year-old infielder had been looking to build off a season that saw him slash .235/.363/.383 across 546 plate appearances between High-A and Double-A, but it appears he could be held out of action for a while.

Promoted to Double-A
Johnson was promoted to Double-A Altoona on Sunday, Chase Ford of MiLB Central reports.
Impact
Johnson will take a step up to Altoona after producing a .238 average with 13 home runs, 46 RBI, 73 runs scored and 20 stolen bases over 110 games with High-A Greensboro this season. The 20-year-old will now look to impress at the Double-A level.
