Optioned to Double-A The Cardinals optioned Roby to Double-A Springfield on Wednesday.

Impact Roby had a nice showing this spring, allowing four runs (three earned) with a 10:2 K:BB over nine innings of work. He was never going to make the Opening Day roster, though, after another injury-shortened season in 2024. Roby has some of the best stuff among the Cardinals' pitching prospects but has totaled only 96.2 innings over the last two seasons because of arm problems.

Added to 40-man roster The Cardinals selected Roby's contract from Double-A Springfield on Tuesday.

Impact Roby was limited to just 38.1 frames in 2024 due to injury and posted a 6.57 ERA in his 10 starts. However, the 23-year-old has displayed terrific stuff when healthy and the Cardinals didn't want to risk losing him in the Rule 5 Draft.

Activated Tuesday Roby (shoulder) was activated from Double-A Springfield's injured list Tuesday.

Impact Roby made three appearances with Single-A Palm Beach while rehabbing a shoulder issue that had shelved him since mid-May. He allowed three runs over five innings with a 6:3 K:BB during his rehab outings. Roby will return to Springfield to close out 2024, though it's unlikely he'll add many innings to his ledger before the minor-league season ends.

Ramping up throwing program Roby (shoulder) is slated to ramp up his throwing program, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Impact Roby has been sidelined since mid-May with a right shoulder problem but would appear to finally be making progress. Between the injury and a 6.75 ERA in his first 33.1 innings before getting hurt, it's been a rough developmental year for Roby.

Shelved at Double-A Double-A Springfield placed Roby on its 7-day injured list Saturday with an unspecified injury.

Impact Roby contended with back problems in spring training, but it's unclear if he's dealing with a setback on that front or nursing a new injury. The 22-year-old right-hander hadn't pitched for Springfield since May 14 and accrued a 6.75 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 33:12 K:BB in 33.1 innings on the season prior to landing on the shelf.
