Outrighted to Triple-A Gushue cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Impact Gushue was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Monday but will remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. He'll report to Iowa, where he has a .272/.328/.440 slash line with five homers, 27 RBI and 14 runs in 36 games.

Designated for assignment The Cubs designated Gushue for assignment Monday, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Impact Gushue appeared in two games, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts after the Cubs called him up Wednesday. Now, he gets demoted to make way for veteran backstop Robinson Chirinos, whom the Cubs signed and activated Monday.

Contract selected Wednesday Gushue's contract was selected by the Cubs on Wednesday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Impact Gushue served as a non-roster invitee during camp this spring and will now serve as the Cubs' backup catcher after Jose Lobaton (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday. The 27-year-old hit .272 with five home runs and 27 RBI in 36 games with Triple-A Iowa to begin the year, but he hasn't yet made his major-league debut.
