Jordyn Adams - Sent down SundayAdams was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.
ImpactAdams was called up by the Angels in early August, but he had inconsistent playing time and went just 2-for-14 with six strikeouts in 10 games during his first taste of major-league action. Mike Trout (wrist) is closing in on a return from the injured list, so Adams will head back to the minors.

Mike Trout - Moving closer to returnTrout (wrist) took swings in an indoor batting cage Saturday and is "very close to returning," per the Associated Press.
ImpactTrout progressed to facing live pitching Thursday and experienced some soreness afterward, but he went right back to swinging a bat Saturday. That bodes well for his chances of being activated from the injured list in the near future, perhaps as soon as Monday, when the Angels are slated to start a three-game home set versus Cincinnati. The team is taking a "wait-and-see" approach with Trout for the time being, per MLB.com, with manager Phil Nevin calling the slugger's status "a day-to-day thing."

Jaime Barría - Blasted for nine runsBarria gave up nine runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 2.1 innings in a loss to the Rays in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.
ImpactAngels starter Patrick Sandoval had a rough outing of his own, and Los Angeles was already down 6-0 when Barria entered in the bottom of the fifth. Things got much worse for the team when Barria surrendered seven runs in the following frame, but manager Phil Nevin let the right-hander take his lumps, keeping him in the contest for another inning, during which he allowed two more runs. While the first two knocks the Rays notched against Barria were infield singles, the veteran gave up plenty of hard contact as well and served up three homers. He's been tagged for 13 runs over 3.1 frames across his past two outings, raising his ERA from 3.86 all the way up to 5.32.

Griffin Canning - Works in bulk relief againCanning (7-4) earned the win over Tampa Bay in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five batters over 3.1 innings.
ImpactChase Silseth started the contest for the Angels but couldn't get through the fourth inning, giving up three runs in that frame and five overall. Canning entered with two on and two out and got Randy Arozarena to ground out to end the threat, then tossed three more innings, during which he gave up just one run on a Jonathan Aranda solo homer. Canning looked good in the outing, racking up 10 swinging strikes among 52 pitches and punching out five Rays. It was the second straight time that he has thrown in long relief since being activated from the injured list Aug. 13, though it's not clear if that will be the norm for him moving forward or if Canning will eventually move back into the rotation.
