Curtis Mead - Sent down to minors The Rays optioned Mead to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.
Impact Mead had been receiving the bulk of the starts at third base following the trade of Isaac Paredes, but he went 3-for-21 at the plate in August while showing shaky defense at the hot corner. Junior Caminero is taking Mead's spot on the roster and will be the team's new everyday third baseman.

Junior Caminero - Officially called up The Rays recalled Caminero from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.
Impact The Rays top prospect will make his 2024 MLB debut, taking Curtis Mead's spot on the active roster. Caminero missed time with a strained quad but has slashed .304/.325/.532 with five homers and an 18.1 percent K rate since coming off the minor-league IL on July 19. The right-hander should settle into a near-everyday role at third base, but could mix in at second or shortstop if needed.

José Caballero - Could see time in outfield Caballero is expected to see opportunities in the outfield following the promotion of Junior Caminero, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact With Caminero likely to get his fair share of chances at the hot corner, the Rays are looking to deploy Cabellero elsewhere to get both on the field at the same time. "Just trying to be more useful for the team, trying to be ready for anything to come up, and if something comes up I want to be ready for it," said Caballero on preparing for outfield duty. "I don't just want to be out there and standing. I want to do my job and try to help the team in any way possible." Caballero last manned the outfield last season, making one start in left field.

Junior Caminero - Set for MLB debut Caminero was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact Caminero missed a good chunk of the season at Triple-A while dealing with a quad injury, but he was activated from the 7-day injured list July 19 and is now on his way to join the big-league club. Prior to Monday's promotion, he was batting .276 with 13 home runs, 34 RBI, one stolen base and 33 runs scored in 53 games for the Bulls. Caminero has been featured primarily at third base this year (43 games) but also has experience at second base (eight games). The 21-year-old also logged 29 games at shortstop a season ago.

Taj Bradley - Allows six runs in loss Bradley (6-7) took the loss Monday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against the Astros. He struck out six.
Impact Bradley was mostly done in by a four-run third that was capped by a three-run blast off the bat of Yainer Diaz. Ultimately Bradley was unable to escape the fifth, having allowed a total of six runs en route to his seventh loss. Following a 10-game stretch in which Bradley completed at least five innings during each start and allowed two or fewer runs nine times, Bradley has now failed to complete five in each of his last two while allowing a total of 11 earned runs. Despite his recent struggles, Bradley's season-long totals remain strong with a 3.49 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 112 strikeouts over 95.1 innings. His next opportunity is not slated to be any easier as he's currently set to face off against the red-hot Diamondbacks in Tampa.

Impact After picking up starts in four of the Rays' last five matchups with right-handed pitching, the righty-hitting Mead will stick in the lineup Monday while the Astros send southpaw Framber Valdez to the hill. Even though the Rays likely envision Waguespack serving as a multi-inning reliever rather than a starter when he returns from the IL, he'll still likely need multiple weeks to complete a throwing progression and minor-league rehab assignment.

Impact Pepiot tossed 69 pitches in the rehab outing, which should be the only minor-league start he needs before making his return from the 15-day injured list. The Rays have seemingly already reopened a spot in the rotation for Pepiot, as the club optioned Tyler Alexander -- who had been functioning as the de facto No. 5 starter -- to Triple-A Durham on Sunday.
