Set for follow-up appointment Strider (elbow) will have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Keith Meister next week, and may also be scheduled for an MRI, Chad Bishop of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Impact The right-hander was originally shut down June 16 for a period of about four weeks after an initial MRI revealed no structural damage, so if his elbow checks out OK, Strider could begin a throwing program soon afterward. A return to the big-league roster in late August would seem to be the best-case scenario for Strider, but Atlanta manager Walt Weiss didn't sound optimistic when discussing the 2023 All-Star. "He's not close to being back here. Spencer's not even really on the radar right now," Weiss said Friday. Through just 39 innings this season, Strider has a 5.31 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 46:20 K:BB.

Transferred to 60-day IL Atlanta transferred Strider (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
Impact Strider landed on the 15-day IL on June 13 with right elbow inflammation and it was later deemed that he would be shut down for at least four weeks. Although the 27-year-old avoided any structural damage to his elbow, Atlanta made the decision to transfer him to the 60-day IL in order to make room on the 40-man roster for Carlos Carrasco. Strider has only appeared in eight games this season for Atlanta after having the start of his season delayed due to an oblique injury that sidelined him until May 3.

Impact After he was forced out of his start Friday against the Mets, Strider was diagnosed with right elbow inflammation and landed on the injured list a day later. While an MRI cleared Strider of any structural damage to his twice-surgically-repaired elbow, he'll still need a prolonged period of rest for the inflammation to calm down. Strider will be scheduled to undergo a follow-up MRI in mid-July, and if his scan is clear at that time, he'll be able to begin a throwing progression around the All-Star break. Even if his recovery from the elbow injury goes smoothly, Strider looks unlikely to join the Atlanta rotation until early-to-mid-August in a best-case scenario, which could make it tough to justify holding him in most redraft leagues.
