INJURIES

Opening season in minors The Astros optioned Arrighetti to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Houston will eventually go to a six-man rotation, and Arrighetti could fill that slot when that happens, per manager Joe Espada. For now, though, the righty will hone his craft in the minors. Arrighetti was limited to only seven starts last season due to injuries and posted a 6.75 ERA and 12:5 K:BB over eight innings this spring.

Mixed results to start spring Arrighetti allowed four runs on three hits and a walk across two innings in Friday's Grapefruit League matchup with Washington. He struck out four.
Impact Arrighetti's spring debut started well, as he struck out a pair of Nationals in a scoreless second inning. However, it was a different story in the third, as Arrighetti would give up four runs with two outs, punctuated by a Luis Garcia three-run homer. The 26-year-old Arrighetti had an up-and-down 2025 campaign, largely due to injuries. After making Houston's Opening Day rotation, Arrighetti posted a 5.35 ERA with 31 strikeouts across seven starts (35.1 innings), though he missed four months with a fractured thumb before missing the final month of the year with an elbow ailment. While it seemed like Arrighetti would be a lock for a rotation spot earlier this offseason, the acquisitions of Tatsuya Imai, Mike Burrows and Ryan Weiss have complicated matters. Arrighetti figures to compete with Weiss, AJ Blubaugh and Lance McCullers for one of the Astros' final two starting spots.

Expected to be ready for spring Arrighetti (elbow) is expected to be 100 percent for the beginning of spring training, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Arrighetti missed the final month of the season with a right elbow injury, but he's considered healthy now and is "having a very productive offseason," per Astros general manager Dana Brown. The 25-year-old was limited to only seven starts at the major-league level in 2025, as he was sidelined four months with a right thumb fracture in addition to the elbow issue. Brown indicated that Arrighetti has a rotation spot for 2026 locked up.

Getting second opinion on elbow Arrighetti will receive a second opinion on his injured right elbow this week, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Arrighetti told reporters last week that his UCL was intact and he would not require surgery. That's presumably still the case, but more should be known about his course of treatment after he receives a second opinion. Arrighetti has been out for all of September and is not expected back before the end of the regular season.

UCL intact, doesn't need surgery Arrighetti (elbow) said Saturday that he will miss the remainder of the regular season, but his UCL is intact and he doesn't require surgery, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Arrighetti is dealing with right elbow inflammation, and he hopes to resume throwing once it clears. It's good news for the right-hander after he was sent to the 15-day injured listed earlier this week. Both Arrighetti and the Astros remain hopeful he can return to the mound at some point in the postseason should the Astros make it to the playoffs.
