Rejoins big club The Blue Jays recalled Keys from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Impact The 23-year-old was called up for his first taste of the majors in late June and had a .467 OPS in 12 games before returning to Buffalo a month later. Manager John Schneider said last week that Keys would begin playing some left field at Buffalo, but the top prospect still seems likely to see most of his action at first or third base for the Blue Jays.

Will play left field at Buffalo Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Keys will begin playing some left field at Triple-A Buffalo, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Impact To this point, Keys has played only first and third base in pro ball, but showing he can handle left field would give the 23-year-old an additional path to playing time in the majors. Keys has been red-hot at the plate for Buffalo in August, slashing .351/.463/.675.

Impact With just three starts over the last 10 games, Keys hasn't been playing enough to justify his inclusion on the big-league roster, and he hasn't helped himself by going 6-for-36 with a 35.1 percent strikeout rate. He will be given regular reps again at Buffalo.

Impact With George Springer still out of the lineup, Keys made his sixth straight start and put together a strong effort. The rookie has gone 5-for-21 (.238) to begin July with a homer, four runs and five RBI in those six games, but a shaky 38.1 percent strikeout rate. Springer could be back in action as soon as Wednesday, which would leave Keys without a clear path to regular playing time.

Impact Keys will collect his fifth start in a row after going 3-for-15 with a home run, a double and three RBI over the previous four contests. His run as an everyday player could end soon, however. The Blue Jays could get George Springer (personal) back form the family medical emergency list as soon as Monday, and Keys is likely to fade into a bench role or return to Triple-A Buffalo at that point.

Impact Getting the start at DH and batting eighth, Keys gave Toronto a 5-0 lead in the third inning on Canada Day when he took Freddy Peralta deep.
