Blue Jays' Teoscar Hernández on IL after COVID close contact

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed outfielder Teoscar Hernández on the injured list after he was exposed to someone with a positive coronavirus case outside of the team
APRIL 9, 2021 • Associated Press
Placed on COVID-19 IL Borucki was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday due to side effects from the vaccine, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.
Impact Borucki is dealing with fatigue and a fever after receiving his COVID-19 vaccine and has been sent home by the team to rest. Since there isn't a minimum amount of time that a player needs to spend on the COVID-19 IL, Borucki will be able to return to the team as soon as his symptoms subside. Right-handers Joel Payamps and Ty Tice were called up by Toronto in corresponding moves.

Earns win against Yankees Borucki (1-0) tossed 0.2 scoreless innings in Sunday's win over the Yankees.
Impact Borucki earned his first win of the season but only recorded two outs to accomplish that feat -- he tossed five of his eight pitches for strikes and easily retired Jay Bruce and Gary Sanchez. Borucki is not expected to see the mound in high-leverage situations, though, so his upside shouldn't be very high going forward -- even if he has started the year with back-to-back scoreless outings.

Sharp to begin spring Borucki has posted a 2.25 ERA and 6:0 K:BB through four Grapefruit League innings.
Impact The southpaw began adjusting to a short relief role last season, and Borucki appears to be thriving with the switch. The 26-year-old should open the season as Toronto's top setup option from the left side, potentially making Borucki a strong source of holds in 2021.

Takes loss, blown save Borucki (1-1) took the loss and blown save against the Rays on Sunday, allowing a run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. He did not record a walk or strikeout.
Impact Borucki entered the game in the fifth inning with runners on first and second and the Jays leading 2-0. He got Kevin Kiermaier to line out for the first out, but a single, sacrifice fly and another single by the next three batters gave the Rays a 3-2 lead. The rough outing handed Borucki his first loss of the season and also charged the southpaw with his second blown save on the campaign.

Heads to taxi squad The Blue Jays optioned Borucki to their taxi squad Thursday, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
Impact Though Borucki missed out on the 30-man Opening Day roster, he'll be on the short-list for a call-up after receiving a spot on the taxi squad, which currently includes two other players (pitcher Nate Pearson and catcher Caleb Joseph). Anthony Kay was able to beat out Pearson and Borucki for a spot in the Opening Day rotation, where he'll replace the injured Chase Anderson (oblique).
JULY 23, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Rotation spot secure Thornton is likely to begin the season as the Blue Jays' No. 4 starter with Chase Anderson (oblique) sidelined, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact The 26-year-old was already the frontrunner for the fifth spot in the rotation, but he receives some additional security with Anderson starting the season on the injured list. Thornton made his big-league debut in 2019 and had a 4.84 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 149:61 K:BB over 154.1 innings. Ryan Borucki, Anthony Kay and Nate Pearson remain in competition for the No. 5 spot.
JULY 19, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Starting season on IL Manager Charlie Montoyo announced Anderson (oblique) will begin the season on the injured list, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact The team indicated shortly after the right-hander suffered the oblique strain last week that he was unlikely to be ready for the start of the season, so it's not a surprise he's heading to the IL. Anderson continues to throw long toss and is progressing toward mound work, per Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca, but he has no official timeline for his return. Trent Thornton receives some stability in the rotation thanks to the news, while Ryan Borucki, Anthony Kay and Nate Pearson are in the mix for the No. 5 spot.
