INJURIES

Headed for second opinion on elbow Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Friday that Bergert will receive a second opinion on the right elbow injury he sustained during his most recent start with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesd...
Impact The Royals are currently terming Bergert's injury as right elbow discomfort, but the fact that he's receiving a second opinion on the matter suggests that surgery could be on the table for the 26-year-old righty. Omaha placed Bergert on its 7-day injured list Friday.

Impact Bergert has traveled to Kansas City to be evaluated by the Royals' medical staff, and more should be known about his prognosis following that visit. The right-hander missed out on a spot in the Royals' Opening Day rotation and has collected a 2.79 ERA and 10:5 K:BB over his first 9.2 innings at Omaha.

Doesn't make Opening Day roster The Royals optioned Bergert to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.
Impact Bergert came into camp with a chance to win a spot in Kansas City's rotation, but he struggled during spring play, posting a 6.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB over 9.2 innings spanning four starts. His biggest issue was the long ball, as he allowed five homers. Bergert should get a chance to get back on the right track with Omaha and will likely be a candidate to be called up should the Royals need a rotation replacement at some point during the campaign.

Struggles in spring loss Bergert allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk over 3.2 innings in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the Athletics. He struck out four.
Impact Bergert struggled to find a rhythm, allowing runs in each of the four frames he pitched in, fueled by four homers, three of which came off the bat of Shea Langeliers. Prior to Saturday's outing, the right-hander had allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings in his first three spring appearances. While this outing wasn't stellar, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports that the Royals are considering deploying a six-man rotation to open the regular season, which increases the chances for Bergert to be part of the starting staff, with Stephen Kolek (oblique) and Bailey Falter also viable options.

Delivers scoreless inning Bergert (elbow) allowed no runs on a hit and a walk with no strikeouts across one inning in Saturday's Cactus League loss to San Diego.
Impact Bergert made his spring debut Saturday, allowing a leadoff double and a two-out walk before retiring the side without damage in his lone inning of work. The right-hander showed promise as a rookie in 2025 before finishing the season on the injured list due to a right elbow strain, posting a 3.66 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 19 appearances (15 starts) between San Diego and Kansas City after being dealt at the trade deadline in the Freddy Fermin deal. Bergert will compete for a spot in the Royals' deep rotation, with Noah Cameron, Stephen Kolek and Bailey Falter also in the mix.

Cleared for throwing Berger (elbow) was cleared in November to begin a throwing program, MLB.com reports.
Impact Bergert missed the last couple weeks of the regular season with a right elbow strain, but he's fully recovered and will enter spring training without limitations, barring any setbacks. The 25-year-old posted a 3.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 73:35 K:BB across 76.1 innings in 2025 between the Padres and Royals and will have a chance to open the 2026 campaign in the major-league rotation.

Out with strained elbow The Royals placed Bergert on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right elbow strain.
Impact Bergert felt something in his pitching arm after throwing his between-starts bullpen session Wednesday and has been diagnosed with a strained elbow. There's no word as to whether he will undergo additional testing, but either way, the injury will end Bergert's season. He posted a promising 3.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 73:35 K:BB across 76.1 innings in 2025 and, if healthy, has a good chance to open the 2026 campaign in the Royals' rotation.
