Lands on injured list Bolanos was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain Tuesday, retroactive to June 12.

Impact Bolanos was called up by the Royals on June 3 and wound up making three relief appearances, allowing just one earned run on four hits across 6.1 innings. Unfortunately, he'll now be on the shelf until at least June 23, with a longer stay on the IL possible depending on the severity of the injury.

Impact The right-hander was called on for a multi-inning appearance after starter Jackson Kowar was pulled with one out in the second inning. Bolanos fared better in his outing, but it didn't change the result of the game. The 24-year-old has a 1.42 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB across 6.1 innings this year. He worked as a starter with Triple-A Omaha this year, and Bolanos could tabbed for a spot in the rotation given Kowar's poor performance through two major-league starts.

Impact Bolanos served as the 27th man during a doubleheader in mid-May, but he failed to make an appearance in the twin bill. He'll now return to the major-league club after he posted a 3.31 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 16.1 innings during four starts with Triple-A Omaha this year. The right-hander will likely serve as a low-leverage reliever but could be available as a spot starter if needed.
