Signs minors deal with Milwaukee Nunez agreed to a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Monday.
Impact Nunez owns a respectable 101 wRC+ in 307 major-league games, the product of a .245/.308/.452 slash line. He could potentially be useful as a bench bat for the Brewers down the stretch, but he'll head to Triple-A Nashville for now.
AUGUST 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Let go by Detroit Nunez was released by the Tigers on Friday.
Impact Nunez has posted solid numbers across 74 Triple-A games this season, but his success at the plate did not transfer to the big-leagues, as he slashed .189/.218/.472 across 55 plate appearances with the Tigers. The 27-year-old is still just one year removed from hitting .256/.324/.492 with 12 homers during the abbreviated 2020 season, so he should have a decent chance of landing a minor-league deal with another club.
AUGUST 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Outrighted to Triple-A Nunez cleared waivers Monday and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo.
Impact Nunez hit a solidly above-average .256/.324/.492 for the Orioles last season but has only gotten into 14 games for the Tigers this year and has struggled to a .189/.218/.472 line in those limited opportunities. Apparently other teams aren't buying into his success last year, either, so he'll remain with the Tigers as organizational depth.

Ryu cruises through 7 innings, Blue Jays beat Tigers 3-0

Hyun Jin Ryu cruised through seven innings, Randal Grichuk and Marcus Semien each homered and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Detroit Tigers 3-0

Detroit Tigers OF Derek Hill returns from injury; Renato Nunez designated for assignment To make room for Derek Hill's return from the injured list, Detroit Tigers first baseman Renato Nunez was designated for assignment.
AUGUST 21, 2021 • FREEP.COM
Designated for assignment Nunez was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Saturday.
Impact Nunez had seen consistent playing time at first base recently, and he hit .231 with two home runs, a double, four RBI, two runs and eight strikeouts across his last seven games. However, he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster after Derek Hill (ribs) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday. Jonathan Schoop will likely serve as the primary first baseman, while Willi Castro and Harold Castro are in line for increased playing time at the keystone.
AUGUST 21, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Gets breather Thursday Nunez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.
Impact Nunez has started each of the Tigers' last six games at either first base or designated hitter, going 5-for-22 with two home runs and four RBI. Until the Tigers return Niko Goodrum (groin) from the injured list, Nunez should be fairly secure in a near-everyday role, though he'll get a breather Thursday in the series finale with Los Angeles.
AUGUST 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Starting again Sunday Nunez is starting at first base and batting fifth in Sunday's game against Cleveland.
Impact After having his contract selected by the Tigers on Wednesday, Nunez will now be making his fourth straight start. He's performed well so far, going 4-for-12 with two home runs across the first three games. With Niko Goodrum (groin) and Isaac Paredes (hip) both out, Detroit has been using Jonathan Schoop regularly at second base lately, which has opened up time at first. Nunez has had some success at the MLB level, including popping 31 home runs for the Orioles in 2019, so he could offer some fantasy production while he's seeing regular starts.

Cabrera doesn't homer but leads Tigers over Indians 6-4

Miguel Cabrera is finding ways to help the Detroit Tigers while he waits for career homer No. 500
AUGUST 15, 2021
Goes deep again Friday Nunez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's loss to Cleveland.
Impact Nunez has now appeared in two games since rejoining the Tigers after having his contract selected by the team Wednesday, and he's homered in both of them. The 27-year-old did hit 31 long balls in his last full season back in 2019, so he may be able to provide Detroit and fantasy managers some power production while he's earning playing time.

Clement 2 HRs, Cabrera stays at 499; Indians beat Tigers 7-4

Cleveland rookie Ernie Clement hit the first two homers of his career while Miguel Cabrera stayed one drive short of No. 500 as the Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 7-4
AUGUST 14, 2021
Contract selected by Tigers Nunez's contract was selected by the Tigers on Wednesday.
Impact Nunez hasn't appeared in the majors since mid-April, and he's slashed .291/.383/.585 with 20 homers, 64 RBI and 60 runs at Triple-A Toledo this season. The 27-year-old will provide depth after Akil Baddoo (concussion) and Derek Hill (ribs) were placed on the injured list.
AUGUST 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Cut loose by Baltimore The Orioles released Nunez on Monday after he cleared waivers.
Impact Since Nunez was arbitration-eligible for the first time in his career and would have been due a hefty salary increase, the Orioles opted to cut ties with the 26-year-old and reserve his 40-man roster spot for another player. After slugging 43 home runs across the past two seasons, Nunez could find a home elsewhere as a bench bat or designated hitter option.
NOVEMBER 24, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Cast off 40-man Nunez was designated for assignment Friday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
Impact While Nunez offers fantasy value when he is playing everyday, the rebuilding Orioles would prefer to use his 40-man roster spot to protect prospects from the Rule 5 draft. Nunez is a first baseman/designated hitter, so his real-life value is minimal. He was worth 0.9 fWAR in 203 games over the past two seasons.
NOVEMBER 20, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Back in action Sunday Nunez (knee) is batting cleanup as the designated hitter Sunday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Nunez was sidelined the past three games by knee soreness, but he'll rejoin the lineup for Sunday's season finale. He'll look to improve upon his .251/.318/.487 slash line for the year.

Remains sidelined Nunez (knee) remains on the bench for the third straight game Saturday against Toronto.
Impact Nunez has been battling a sore knee, though previous reports indicated he was expected to play again at some point this season. Time is running out for that to happen, though he could still appear off the bench Saturday or as a starter Sunday.

Available off bench Nunez (knee) is expected to be available off the bench Friday against Toronto and should play at least once more before the end of the year, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Nunez sits for the second straight game Friday due to a sore knee. It doesn't look as though his season is over, though it's unclear how large a role he'll play in the final few days of the campaign.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Sits again Friday Nunez (knee) remains on the bench Friday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Knee soreness kept Nunez out of the lineup Thursday and will cost him at least one more game. With the season ending Sunday, it's possible he's already appeared in his final game of the year. If so, he'll end the year with a career-best .805 OPS. Jose Iglesias serves as the designated hitter for Friday's game, with Ramon Urias starting at shortstop.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with knee soreness Nunez is dealing with knee soreness that is keeping him out of Thursday's lineup against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Nunez has reportedly been dealing with knee soreness for several days, but the issue is worse Thursday than it's been in the past. As a result, he'll get a day to recover. It's unclear whether the injury will impact his availability for the Orioles' final series of the regular season, which runs from Friday to Sunday.
SEPTEMBER 24, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Not starting Thursday Nunez isn't in Thursday's lineup against the Red Sox.
Impact Nunez has gone 4-for-11 with a home run and three RBI over the past three contests, and he'll take a breather for the series finale Thursday. Pat Valaika will start at first base.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2020
Goes deep against Red Sox Nunez went 1-for-4 with a home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss against the Red Sox.
Impact Nunez blasted his 12th home run of the season during the top of the sixth and while it put the Orioles down by just two runs, Baltimore couldn't complete the comeback. Nunez has been one of the team's most reliable offensive forces this year, leading the team in several offensive metrics aside of home runs such as RBI (30) and OPS (.803) among qualified hitters.
