INJURIES

Transferred to 60-day IL Poulin (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Sunday.
Impact Poulin has been out since mid-July while recovering from a left flexor strain, and he will now be sidelined until at least mid-September while on the 60-day IL. The Nationals acquired right-handed pitchers Yovanny Cruz, Jake Bird, Ben Grable and Jack Cebert on Sunday from the Yankees in exchange for infielder Luis Garcia, and Poulin's move to the 60-day IL frees up a spot on the 40-man roster.

MRI on Poulin's elbow reveals no damage to UCL DENVER – There was a sigh of relief for the Nationals’ beleaguered bullpen on Monday when the results of lefty PJ Poulin’s MRI came back. Th...

Shelved with left flexor strain The Nationals placed Poulin on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a left flexor strain.
Impact Poulin hadn't pitched in either of the Nationals' first two games following the All-Star break, so it's unclear when or how he sustained the forearm strain. He'll be eligible for activation July 31, but given the nature of his injury, Poulin seems likely to miss more than the minimum 15 days. Washington re-signed left-hander Matt Krook to a one-year deal Sunday to take Poulin's spot in the bullpen and on the 26-man active roster.

Yankees rally late again in Washington, this time with 4 in 8th for 4-2 victory and 3rd win in row

Trent Grisham’s two-run homer in the eighth inning gave the New York Yankees another comeback victory over the Washington bullpen, 4-2
JULY 11 • Associated Press
Opening Saturday Poulin will serve as the opening pitcher in Saturday's game against the Yankees, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact Poulin will receive his 11th opening assignment of the season and likely remain in the game for an inning or two before turning the game over to bulk reliever Miles Mikolas. Poulin has given up just two runs in 10.1 innings since coming up from the minors in mid-June and carries a 2.83 ERA through 35 frames on the year.
JULY 11 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up third save Poulin earned the save in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Orioles, allowing one walk over two scoreless innings.
Impact With Clayton Beeter having pitched Saturday and Richard Lovelady working in the seventh inning, Poulin was called upon to pitch the final two innings Sunday with a two-run lead. The southpaw was sharp, issuing just one walk as he locked down his third save of the season, his first since May 13. Poulin has been a bright spot in an otherwise maligned Nationals' bullpen -- he's given up just one run in his last 7.2 innings, lowering his ERA to 2.88 with a 1.28 WHIP and 22:19 K:BB across 34.1 innings this year.

Daylen Lile's RBI single in 10th lifts Nationals over Orioles, 4-3

Grabbing opener assignment Poulin will serve as the Nationals' opening pitcher in Tuesday's game versus the Phillies, Kyle Williams of TheBanner.com reports.
Impact Poulin is no stranger to opener assignments, as this will be his 10th already this season. The southpaw has held lefty bats to a .173/.283/.346 batting line in 2026, so it makes sense to have him face Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper before handing things off to bulk relief righty Zack Littell.

JUNE 19 • MLB.COM
Set to start Friday Poulin will start Friday's game against the Rays.
Impact The left-hander has served as an opener eight times this season and will pick up another start Friday after scheduled starter Cade Cavalli (illness) was scratched. Poulin hasn't covered more than two frames in any of his 29 outings this year, so he'll likely give way to the Washington bullpen after a frame or two.

Miles Mikolas' 7 shutout innings lift Nationals to 10-1 rout of Mariners

Miles Mikolas pitched seven shutout innings in relief of an opener, and the Washington Nationals scored five runs in the fourth inning to pull away from the Seattle Mariners 10-1
JUNE 14 • Associated Press
Working as opener Sunday Poulin will serve as the Nationals' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Kyle Williams of TheBanner.com reports.
Impact Poulin will draw his eighth start of the season, and just like on the previous seven occasions, he's expected to cover no more than two innings before exiting the game. Miles Mikolas is slated to work in bulk relief behind Poulin.
JUNE 14 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled from Triple-A The Nationals recalled Poulin from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday.
Impact Poulin will return to Washington's bullpen after giving up three earned runs in five innings since his demotion to Triple-A in late May. The 29-year-old southpaw owns a 3.28 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 24.2 frames with the Nationals this season and will presumably work in middle relief as long as he's with the big club.
JUNE 13 • ROTOWIRE
Sent back to Triple-A The Nationals optioned Poulin to Triple-A Rochester following Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Guardians.
Impact For the seventh time this season, Poulin served as an opener for Washington during Wednesday's contest. The lefty struck out a batter and gave up no hits and one walk over a scoreless frame before Miles Mikolas took over in bulk relief. Washington didn't announce a corresponding transaction but will add another player to the active roster as a replacement Poulin prior to Friday's game against the Padres.
MAY 27 • ROTOWIRE
Another opener assignment Poulin will serve as the opening pitcher for the Nationals in Wednesday's game versus the Guardians, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Poulin opened the series opener Monday, too, allowing one run on a solo home run in his two innings of work. Miles Mikolas is slated to absorb the bulk of the innings for the Nationals on Wednesday.

Curtis Mead goes deep twice, Nationals pound 6 homers in a 10-2 win over the Guardians

Serving as opener Monday Poulin will be the Nationals' opening pitcher in Monday's game versus the Guardians, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports.
Impact It will be the sixth opener assignment this season for Poulin, who has permitted only one run with a 5:1 K:BB over 6.1 innings in the first five of those outings. Zack Littell is in line for bulk relief duty for the Nationals on Monday.

Called up from Triple-A The Nationals recalled Poulin from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday.
Impact Poulin was demoted to Triple-A on Wednesday, but the Nationals were able to bring him back just four days later after Jake Irvin (shoulder) was moved to the injured list in a corresponding move. The 30-year-old will provide Washington with a fourth left-handed option in the bullpen behind Richard Lovelady, Mitchell Parker and Andrew Alvarez.

Nationals right-hander Jake Irvin on 15-day injured list with 'best news' of shoulder strain

Washington Nationals right-hander Jake Irvin has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain
MAY 24 • Associated Press
Sent back to minors The Nationals optioned Poulin to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact Poulin has been deployed in a variety of roles for the Nationals this season and is one of seven relievers on the roster to notch a save. However, while he's managed a 2.91 ERA, a 16:14 K:BB over 21.2 innings is less appetizing. Clayton Beeter (forearm) is expected to come off the injured list Thursday in a corresponding move.
MAY 21 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up second save Poulin gave up an unearned run on a hit and a walk in the 10th inning Wednesday to record his second save of the season in an 8-7 win over the Reds. He struck out one.
Impact Gus Varland worked a scoreless ninth to get the game to extras, and while Poulin did allow the phantom runner to score in the bottom of the 10th, his two-run cushion proved to be enough. The southpaw has found himself in the high-leverage mix for Washington somewhat by default, and through 20 innings this season Poulin sports a 3.15 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB with three wins and three holds over 21 appearances in addition to his two saves.
