DeJong has three straight multi-hit performances, with the prior two starts coming at second base while Luis Garcia was dealing with back tightness. Garcia returned to the starting nine Monday, but interim manager Miguel Cairo will be motivated to keep DeJong in the lineup given his hot bat -- over 40 plate appearances since the All-Star break, the veteran utility infielder is slashing .333/.375/.639 with two doubles, three homers, two steals and seven RBI.

Filling in for resting Luis Garcia DeJong will start at second base and bat third in Wednesday's game against the Athletics.
Impact After he was on the bench for each of the last three games, the right-handed-hitting DeJong will re-enter the starting nine Wednesday while the left-handed-hitting Luis Garcia takes a seat against Athletics southpaw Jeffrey Springs. DeJong is slashing .231/.283/.374 overall on the season and looks destined to remain in a utility role unless an injury opens up an everyday job at second base, third base or shortstop.

It was DeJong's first homer of 2025, and while the veteran infielder has lost his starting spot at third base to rookie Brady House, he could still get significant playing time in a utility role.
