Harper has 3 hits, Phils win 3rd straight over Rockies, 7-3

Byrce Harper had a triple among his three hits, Odubel Herrera homered and drove in two runs, and the Philadelphia Phillies won their third straight over the Colorado Rockies, 7-3
APRIL 28, 2022 • Associated Press
Homers, drives in three Herrera went 2-for-4 with a homer, double, three RBI and two runs scored in a 10-3 win Tuesday over Colorado.
Impact In the fourth, Herrera had a RBI double and later came across to score. Two innings later, he hit a two-run blast off Jhoulys Chacin. After missing the first 13 games of the season with an oblique injury, Herrera has hit well in his three starts with two multi-hit games and three extra-base hits. He's hit ninth and played center field in each of his starts.

Herrera, Eflin lead Phillies to 10-3 rout of Rockies

Odubel Herrera homered, doubled and drove in three runs, Zach Eflin pitched six strong innings and the Philadelphia Phillies again took advantage of some shaky Colorado defense in...

Sits against another southpaw Herrera remains on the bench Monday against the Rockies.
Impact Herrera returned from an oblique strain Friday and appears to be in a straightforward platoon with Matt Vierling in center field. Herrera got the nod against righties Friday and Saturday, but Vierling has since made a pair of starts against left-handers, including Monday's starter Kyle Freeland.
APRIL 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Sits against lefty Herrera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Impact After missing the start of the season with an oblique injury, Herrera returned from the injured list Friday and started in the first two games of the series with Milwaukee, going 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored between those contests. The lefty-hitting Herrera will bow out of the lineup Sunday against southpaw Eric Lauer, but he's still expected to hold down the large side of a platoon in center field with Matt Vierling now that he's healthy again.

Phillies' Odúbel Herrera vies for starting job; Bryce Harper's return to outfield looms The Phillies are looking for anything in center field. Harper can only DH, and the two corner outfielders were signed to hit, not defend.

Reinstated from 10-day IL Herrera (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Impact Herrera dealt with a right oblique strain since early in camp, but he recently completed a rehab assignment in which he hit .281 with three doubles, four runs and three RBI in eight games. He'll likely serve in the strong side of a platoon in center field early on while Matt Vierling sees playing time against left-handed pitchers, but Herrera should have a chance to carve out an everyday role if he performs well.
APRIL 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Rehab moves to Triple-A Herrera (oblique) moved to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to continue his rehab assignment Tuesday, Tom Housenick of The Morning Call reports.
Impact Herrera has been out since early in camp while battling a strained right oblique. He has seven hits in five rehab games thus far and may not need many more games before being activated. Primary center fielder Matt Vierling has hit .130/.192/.174 through 11 games, so there should be plenty of opportunities for Herrera to claim a large number of starts.

Begins rehab assignment Herrera (oblique) was sent on a rehab assignment to Low-A Clearwater on Tuesday.
Impact Herrera missed Opening Day due to a strained right oblique. His original recovery timeline had him returning sometime in late April or early May, and it looks as though he may be on track to hit the early end of that window. He'll likely split time with Matt Vierling in center field once he's fully healthy.

Phillies face the Mets with 1-0 series lead

Progressing in recovery Herrera (oblique) took five at-bats and served as the designated hitter in Clearwater on Saturday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact Herrera stayed behind at Philadelphia's spring training facility to begin the season while working his way back from an oblique injury. He is not expected to be activated from the injured list until late April, though this is a positive step in his recovery. Matt Vierling has served as the team's primary center fielder in Herrera's absence.

Opening on injured list Herrera (oblique) will open the season on the 10-day injured list, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Impact Reports from late March indicated Herrera would likely miss up to six weeks. His exact timeline isn't clear, but it's now been confirmed that he'll miss at least the first week of the season. Matt Vierling and Mickey Moniak will open the season splitting time in center field, and Herrera could be at risk of losing playing time once he returns if either of those young outfielders has a strong start to the season.

Potentially out 4-to-6 weeks Herrera is likely to miss Opening Day after being diagnosed with a mild oblique strain Wednesday, and he could be out for 4-to-6 weeks, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer rep...
Impact Herrera hasn't been officially ruled out for Opening Day, but it's fair to assume he won't be game ready with only 16 days until the April 8 opener against the A's. The 30-year-old re-signed with the Phillies on a one-year deal last week and was poised to start in center field, but Matt Vierling and Adam Haseley are now the likely candidates for the job. Herrera's recovery timeline should come into focus as he continues to be evaluated.

Trending toward missing Opening Day Phillies manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that Herrera is behind schedule for being ready for the team's April 8 season opener against the Athletics after experiencing soreness in...
Impact Herrera is scheduled to undergo an MRI later this week so the Phillies can get a better sense of the extent of his injury. Though Herrera has reportedly shown some improvement in the last few days, Girardi acknowledged that the outfielder likely hasn't made enough progress to be ready for Opening Day. Girardi already dismissed the possibility of Bryce Harper sliding over from right field to replace Herrera's spot in the outfield, so Matt Vierling looks like the early frontrunner for the center-field job while Herrera is out. Adam Haseley could also factor into the mix at the position.

Dealing with side issue Manager Joe Girardi said Monday that Herrera hasn't yet appeared in a Grapefruit League game since he recently tweaked his side during batting practice, Matt Gelb of The Athletic r...
Impact Girardi said that the Phillies aren't doing imaging on Herrera's injury and don't believe the issue is serious, but if it ends up being an oblique injury, the team may be underselling how long he'll be sidelined. If the 30-year-old is able to make his spring debut in the coming days, he could still be ready for Opening Day. If not, a combination of Matt Vierling and Adam Haseley would likely see extra playing time early in the season.
MARCH 21, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Back in Philly on one-year deal Herrera agreed Monday to re-sign with the Phillies on a one-year contract, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Impact Philadelphia found the upper end of the free-agent market for center fielders too rich for its blood, so the team opted to maintain continuity at the position by bringing back Herrera on what's presumably a low-cost deal. The 30-year-old posted a respectable .318 wOBA (97 wRC+) against right-handed pitching in 2021 compared to a .299 wOBA (84 wRC+), so he'll presumably be targeted for the large side of a platoon in center field with Matt Vierling. The lack of a full-time role limits Herrera's overall fantasy upside, but the fact that Philadelphia used him as its leadoff hitter versus righties late in 2021 could make him a nice under-the-radar target late in drafts in deeper mixed leagues.
