Ready for rehab start Song (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with the rookie-level Florida Complex League Red Sox on Tuesday, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.

Impact Song hasn't pitched since 2023 because of back surgery and then Tommy John surgery but has been cleared for game action following a lengthy rehab. The righty has been touching 97 mph during live batting practice sessions and the plan is to eventually assign him to Double-A Portland and develop him as a multi-inning reliever. Song will turn 28 next week, as the start of his pro career was delayed as he completed military service obligations.

Moving through throwing program Song (elbow) said Monday that he's progressing in his throwing program and is expected throw live batting practice in late March, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Impact The right-hander missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in the spring and will also be unavailable for the early part of 2025. Song will likely report to Triple-A Lehigh once he completes his rehab program and has an outside chance of making his MLB debut late in the season.

Impact Song has been on the injured list all season, though he began a rehab assignment June 28. Song performed well during his first four games with Single-A Clearwater, but he struggled as he moved to Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 26-year-old righty will now be cast off the 40-man roster and presumably remain in Triple-A, where he surrendered six runs over 3.1 innings while on assignment.

Walks have been a problem for Song during his rehab assignment, as he has a 3.52 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and an 11:7 K:BB in 7.2 innings across six appearances.
