Tigers aim to stop losing streak in matchup with the Royals

The Detroit Tigers are looking to end their five-game skid with a win against the Kansas City Royals
3 HOURS AGO • Associated Press
Confirmed for start Sunday Manager Matt Quatraro said Friday that Cameron (back) will start Sunday's game against the Tigers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cameron was scratched from his last scheduled start Tuesday against Cleveland due to back tightness. After throwing a bullpen session Thursday without any problems, he'll officially avoid a stint on the injured list and return to face a Detroit lineup that's posted just a .669 OPS over its last 10 games.

Slated for bullpen session Cameron (back) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Thursday to determine his readiness to start Sunday against the Tigers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cameron had to be scratched from his scheduled start against the Guardians on Tuesday due to back tightness. The move was considered precautionary, and as long as the lefty gets through Thursday's mound work without a setback, he should miss just the one turn in the rotation. Cameron has posted a 5.40 ERA and 28:11 K:BB over 31.2 frames in his first six starts this season.

Impact Stephen Kolek is picking up a spot start Tuesday for Kansas City in Cameron's absence. Assuming the 26-year-old bounces back as expected, he should re-enter the Royals' starting rotation this weekend versus Detroit.

Royals Turn to Stephen Kolek for Start as Noah Cameron Misses Time Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Stephen Kolek will make his season debut Tuesday as Noah Cameron deals with back tightness.

Scratched from scheduled start Cameron won't start Tuesday's game against the Guardians due to lower back tightness.
Impact Cameron was in line to toe the rubber for his seventh start of the 2026 campaign Tuesday, but he'll miss his start after experiencing back tightness. Stephen Kolek will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start in Cameron's place. It's unclear at this time when Cameron will pitch next, as the club may elect to skip his turn in the rotation, depending on the severity of the injury.

Settles in late during loss Cameron (2-2) took the loss Thursday against the Athletics, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings.
Impact Cameron ran into trouble early, surrendering nine baserunners in the first two innings that led to his five runs. The southpaw was sharper after that, retiring 11 of his final 13 batters to limit further damage, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Cameron still showed some swing-and-miss ability, generating 14 whiffs on 93 pitches, though he continues to struggle with run prevention. Over his last four starts, he has allowed 20 runs (17 earned) across 21 innings, pushing his season line to a 5.40 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB in 31.2 innings. Cameron is scheduled to face Cleveland in his next outing.

Quality start to earn second win Cameron (2-1) picked up the win Friday against the Angels, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks with six strikeouts across 6.1 innings.
Impact Cameron threw all five of his pitches at least 10 times, and his fastball velocity was up to 92.7 mph after averaging 91.7 mph in the early going this season. The left-hander did enough to pick up his first quality start of the season, and it was the first time he's gone at least six innings in a start in 2026. Prior to Friday, Cameron had surrendered five earned runs in back-to-back outings. With the win Friday, he lowered his ERA to 5.13 and now has a 23:9 K:BB across 26.1 innings.

Impact Three of the hits off Cameron left the yard, and all three came in a disastrous third inning that saw Kansas City fall into a 5-0 hole they couldn't escape. It marked the second straight outing in which the southpaw served up multiple homers, and through four starts and 20 innings he's saddled with a 5.40 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB. Cameron will look to bounce back in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Angels.

Struggles to no-decision Cameron didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the White Sox, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four in 5.1 innings of work.
Impact For the second straight start, Cameron worked into the sixth inning but couldn't complete it. Home runs were an issue for the 26-year-old for the first time all season as Colson Montgomery and Tanner Murray each took the left-hander deep Sunday to account for four of the five runs he surrendered. He had allowed just two runs combined over his first two starts of the season, so his season-long ERA sits at 3.94 with 16 innings under his belt so far.

Lasts 5.2 frames in no-decision Cameron did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Guardians, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.
Impact Cameron was unable to finish out the quality start but limited Cleveland to a single run while giving up just one extra-base hit. The left-hander has now surrendered just one run in each of his first two starts of the season, and his 10:2 K:BB over 10.2 frames is also encouraging. A matchup with the White Sox this weekend should provide a solid chance for Cameron to build on his strong start to 2026.
APRIL 7 • ROTOWIRE
Strong in season debut Cameron (1-0) allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings to earn the win over the Twins on Wednesday.
Impact Cameron's season debut was a positive one, as he was able to limit the damage to a Brooks Lee RBI single in the fifth inning. Cameron made a strong first impression in 2025, starting 24 regular-season games and pitching to a 2.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 114:43 K:BB over 138.1 innings. Walks and long balls will be something to keep an eye on in his second big-league campaign, as he gave up 18 homers last season and plenty more loud contact that didn't get over the fence. He's projected to make his next start on the road in Cleveland, which could be the first outing of a two-start week for Cameron.
