Optioned to Triple-A Mears has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Impact Mears was recalled from Indianapolis on May 26, but ultimately never made an appearance for Pittsburgh. Chad Kuhl (shoulder), who is slated to start Monday's game against the Royals, will be activated to take his roster spot.

Impact The hard-throwing righty registered a 4.50 ERA in six spring games covering six innings. Mears walked five batters and hit another and will work on his control with Triple-A Indianapolis. The 24-year-old debuted in the majors last summer, compiling a 5.40 ERA with a 7:7 BB:K in five innings.
