Latches on with ChiSox as NRI The White Sox signed Maton to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes and invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of Just Baseball reports.

Impact Maton, who turns 28 in February, got a cup of coffee with the Orioles in 2024 but spent the majority of the year at Triple-A Norfolk, where he put up an .834 OPS with 16 homers. He can play everywhere other than catcher and will compete for a utility role with the White Sox.

Impact Maton spent most of the 2024 campaign at the Triple-A level, posting a .258/.363/.471 slash line with 16 home runs, 56 RBI, 44 runs and one stolen base over 344 plate appearances. He got into five major-league games with the Orioles and went 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts. Maton doesn't offer much in the way of power or speed, but he could have some appeal for his versatility, as he can play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield.

Sent to Baltimore The Orioles acquired Maton from the Tigers on Wednesday in exchange for cash.

Impact Maton was DFA'd by the Tigers on Monday in order to clear space for Kolton Ingram. Maton showed promise during his first two seasons with the Phillies, but he managed just a .593 OPS last year in 293 plate appearances with Detroit. He will almost certainly head to Triple-A Norfolk to begin 2024.
