Back in majors Gordon was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Impact Luis Arraez (concussion) was placed on the 7-day injured list, so Gordon will serve as a short-term bench bat. He did not appear in a game during his last three-day stint with the big club.

Moves back to alt site The Twins optioned Gordon to their alternate training site Monday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

Impact Gordon's first stint in the big leagues lasted all of three days, and he didn't get the chance to make his MLB debut during the Twins' weekend series with the Pirates. With Minnesota bringing back everyday shortstop Andrelton Simmons from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move, Gordon's playing-time outlook was unlikely to improve had he stuck around with the Twins. He'll report to the Twins' Triple-A affiliate in St. Paul, where he'll prepare for an everyday role in the middle infield when the club begins its season next week.

Impact The 25-year-old's callup was initially reported Thursday, but he's now been officially added to the big-league club. Gordon last saw game action in 2019 with an .801 OPS at Triple-A, and his first appearance with the Twins will mark his debut in the majors.

Impact If Gordon is officially called up, it will be for his major-league debut. He spent both the 2018 and 2019 seasons at Triple-A Rochester, so he has plenty of experience in the upper minors. However, Gordon isn't projected to make a big impact with his bat, as he has struck out around a 20 percent clip during his time at Rochester and has very little power.

Impact The No. 5 overall pick from 2014 hit .200 in 10 at-bats during Grapefruit League play. He will serve as organizational infield depth this season and is not expected to see much playing time at the big-league level.

Getting work at 2B Gordon will be given a look at second base this spring as he attempts to make the roster as a utility player, the Fort Myers Beach News reports.

Impact Gordon was sidelined for much of July and August after testing positive for COVID-19 and only worked for a few weeks at the alternate site before being shut down for the season. He's apparently healthy in camp and will try to win a reserve spot on the major-league roster. When we last saw Gordon at Triple-A Rochester in 2019, he showed significant improvement at the plate, but his .298/.342/.459 slash line (102 wRC+) still only translated to just above league-average production. He'll likely need to prove himself again in Triple-A before getting a shot in the majors.
