Moves off 40-man roster The Orioles designated Avila for assignment Wednesday.

Impact Baltimore claimed Avila off waivers from San Francisco on June 17, but he spent much of the past two months on Triple-A Norfolk's injured list before returning to action for the Orioles' International League affiliate last week. He was lit up over his three relief appearances for Norfolk, giving up 10 earned runs over just 1.1 innings before the Orioles moved him off their 40-man roster. Avila is expected to clear waivers and will most likely stick around in the organization as a bullpen arm at Norfolk.

Joining White Sox Avila was selected by the White Sox during the Rule 5 draft Wednesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Impact Avila was a 26th-round pick by the Giants in 2019 and will now have a chance in the big leagues for Chicago. The right-hander split the 2022 campaign between the High-A and Double-A levels, and he had a 1.14 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 58:14 K:BB across 55.1 innings.
