Tommy Hunter released from minor league contract by Mets

Right-hander Tommy Hunter was released from a minor league contract by the New York Mets

Spot in bullpen secure Loup is expected to begin the season as part of the Mets' bullpen, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact The veteran reliever should be the top southpaw in the 'pen, giving Loup a path to consistent high-leverage work in a division that includes the likes of Juan Soto, Freddie Freeman and Bryce Harper. Loup has been sharp this spring, posting a 3.18 ERA and 9:0 K:BB over 5.2 innings, and he could be poised to top his career high of 13 holds, set back in 2014 with the Blue Jays.

Locked into bullpen job Castro should begin the season as part of the Mets' bullpen, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact The right-hander has been sharp this spring, allowing only one hit and one walk over 5.1 scoreless innings while striking out seven. Castro's spot in the pecking order isn't yet clear, but things appear wide open after closer Edwin Diaz and eighth-inning man Trevor May, so he could quickly work his way into a setup role if he remains effective.

Closing in on bullpen role Barnes appears likely to begin the season as part of the Mets' bullpen, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact The right-hander's 5.40 ERA this spring isn't impressive, but he does have a 6:2 K:BB through five innings -- and, perhaps more importantly, Barnes is out of minor-league options. Expect the 30-year-old to fill a fairly low-leverage role initially, but if he pitches effectively, he could work his way into a more fantasy-friendly assignment in a bullpen that remains unsettled behind closer Edwin Diaz and eighth-inning man Trevor May.

Set for sim game Friday DeGrom will throw about 90 pitches in a simulated game Friday as his final appearance of the spring, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact This will allow the right-hander to get an extra day of rest prior to his Opening Day assignment while also preventing his first regular-season opponent, the Nationals, from getting an extra look at him in exhibition play. DeGrom will finish Grapefruit League play with a dazzling 0.66 ERA and 21:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings as he prepares to take a run at another Cy Young Award.

Appears set as fifth starter Lucchesi is penciled in as the Mets' No. 5 starter after Jordan Yamamoto was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Manager Luis Rojas has mentioned this spring that he could potentially use an opener on occasion, so Lucchesi may not officially get every start when his turn comes around, but for now, he's set to follow Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, Taijuan Walker and David Peterson in the rotation. Lucchesi is likely just keeping a spot warm until Carlos Carrasco (hamstring) is healthy, but if he outperforms Peterson, he could retain a starting role beyond that.
