Headed back to Japan The SoftBank Hawks of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball signed Uwasawa to a four-year contract Wednesday, The Mainichi reports.

Impact Uwasawa signed a minor-league deal with the Rays last offseason and made two relief appearances with the Red Sox in May. The righty now returns to his native Japan to continue his professional career.

Outrighted to Worcester Uwasawa cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Impact Uwasawa was designated for assignment Tuesday, and after clearing waivers, he will stick around in the Red Sox organization. The 30-year-old has appeared in two big-league games, allowing one run on two hits across 4.0 innings. He's made six starts in 13 appearances at Triple-A this season.

Impact Uwasawa will yield his spot on the 40-man roster to Trey Wingenter, who was acquired Saturday via trade and is getting called up by Boston. Uwasawa registered a 6.54 ERA in 42.2 innings at Triple-A Worcester this season. Assuming he clears waivers, the 30-year-old should remain in the Red Sox organization.
