Justin Topa - Leaves with apparent injury Topa was removed from Wednesday's Cactus League appearance against the Orioles with an apparent injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact Topa threw only seven pitches in the outing, surrendered a solo home run and showed diminished velocity. The reliever made just three appearances for the Twins in 2024 while dealing with knee and elbow problems. His status should be updated by the club later Wednesday.
MARCH 5, 2025 ROTOWIRE
Chris Sale - Dazzles in Tuesday's outing Sale walked one and struck out four over four scoreless, no-hit innings during Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins.
Impact The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner looked to be nearly in regular season form as he carved up a Minnesota lineup that included plenty of potential Opening Day starters, with his strikeouts coming against the likes of Matt Wallner, Ty France and Jose Miranda. Sale's outing was even more encouraging considering that Drake Baldwin was getting the start at catcher in place of Sean Murphy (ribs), as Atlanta could elect to bring the prospect north on the 26-man roster. Sale remains on track to get the Opening Day nod against the Padres on March 27.

Matt Canterino - Out with shoulder strain Canterino is out indefinitely after suffering a right shoulder injury which an MRI showed was a strain, the Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Impact Canterino hasn't pitched in any of the previous two seasons, as he was sidelined for all of 2023 following Tommy John surgery and then suffered a rotator cuff strain last spring. The Twins had planned to move him to the bullpen to reduce the workload on his arm and shoulder. It sounds like this could be another significant setback.

Brock Stewart - Making spring debut Stewart (shoulder) is scheduled to appear in relief in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Stewart finished the 2024 season on the injured list after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last August, but he seems to be trending toward being ready for Opening Day. He'll make his spring debut Wednesday, and if all goes smoothly in his subsequent Grapefruit League appearances, he'll likely break camp as a member of the Minnesota bullpen. Stewart turned in a 5.17 ERA and 1.47 WHIP while striking out 20 batters over 15.2 innings across his 16 appearances last season before being shelved with the injury.

Matthew Batten - Gets MiLB deal from Atlanta Atlanta signed Batten to a minor-league contract Feb. 21 that includes an invitation to spring training.
Impact Batten has already seen action in three Grapefruit League games for Atlanta, going 1-for-5 with an RBI. The 29-year-old is likely to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Gwinnett as utility depth.
